The Future Farmers of America or ‘‘F.F A. is a National Organization of, by, and for farm boys studying Vocational Agriculture, between the ages of 14-2! years of age The F.F A is an mtra-curricular activity having its origin and root in a definite part of the school curriculum—Vocational Agriculture Through active participation, the members learn how to conduct and take part in public meetings; to speak in public, to finance themselves and to assume civic respon- sibility. The F.F.A is a non-profit, non-political, farm youth organization of voluntary membership, designed for the development of leadership, the building of a more per- manent agriculture, and the improvement of country life The Bill Sheely Chapter was organized in Sept 1949 with Rodney Dicks acting as first President. The reason for the organization of a new chapter was due to the large enrollment of the Agriculture Department By having two chapters the members have an opportunity for more par- ticipation in various contests, developing leadership as well as a sense of competition within the department The name of Bill Sheely was selected as a tribute to one of our Columbia County F.F A boys who gave his life in the Service of his country during World War II Bill Sheely was an outstanding Future Farmer as well as a fine student.
