Home Ec. Prepares Students For Future N. Hornibrook M. Lund , , t - .--- :wisp L. Restad B- Savre Home Economics courses cover many aspects of daily living for both female and male students. There are many different sewing courses from which one can choose. The most recent course added to the curriculum is Outdoor Gear. In this class, down jackets and vests, backpacks, duffle bags and much more are made. Home Economics also offers courses in cooking, marriage and family, and child guidance. The introduction to Child Guidance consists of a month long playschool for three and four year olds. The high school students actually plan the activities and conduct the class. Courses in interior design are yet another aspect covered in the home economics department. Field trips to Hirschfields, Day- ton's Home Store, and Anderson's House of Furniture highlight the studies in the interior design class. Music Department Adds To School Life R. Johnson N. Staska The Music Department offers classes which help stu- dents to learn more about music fundamentals and help the students become more aware of its impor- tance. ln any kind of music class, group effort is the key to success. Students involved in the music pro- gram develop a closer relationship with their fellow students for they all share a common goal: to learn and enjoy the field of music. They work for perfection and strive for excellence while receiving personal satisfac- tion. Music plays a great part in all our lives. lt creates an atmosphere wherever you're at and whether it's playing an instrument or singing a song, music is for you.

Tim sets type in Graphic Arts. The Industrial Arts Program at the Sr. High is a very popular series of courses open to boys and girls. The facilities and instruction are of very high quality, which provides for an exceptionally fine program. There are ten main subject areas in the Industrial Arts department. In Automotive Mechanics, each stu- dent covers many systems of the automobile. Such units covered are: tune-up, brake systems, engine re- building, electrical, and fuel systems. Another area is Drafting. The Drafting program con- sists of four mechanical and four architectural courses, which provide a very wide exposure to the entire field of drafting. The Graphic Arts program at Columbia Heights Sen- ior High is a very popular course which involves work with the printing industry. Woodworking, Electricity!Electronics, Power Me- chanics, Trades and lndustry and Consumer courses are the other subject areas found in the Industrial Arts department.
