Hites Varsity football squad finished the season with a 6-3 record. This season compared to the last few years was not the best since for the last 2 years we were North Suburban Conference Champs. Even though we didn't win the Conference, school spirit was behind our Hylanders all the way. The first game of the season was lost to Ramsey-not a good start, but we came back with a win over Kellogg the next week. One major problem that could have had an effect on the Hites team was our unfaithful lighting system. It consistantly failed to function properly and as a result there were no home games until Homecom- ing. Hopefully next year our lights will work, and Good Luck to the team of '80,

But the girls really showed their talents in the re- gional competition by capturing the runner-up trophy. To advance to the finals, Heights defeated Minneapolis South C5-OD, Park Center C3-21, and Minneapolis Southwest in the semi-finals by a score of 3-2. Out of 14 starting teams in the regions, there were now only two teams left-Columbia Heights and Osseo. After a good match, Osseo defeated Heights by a 3-2 score. This was the second year that the girls tennis team was the runner-up in the regions and the team brought home the second tro- phy ever for girls tennis. In the regional individuals tourna- ment, Columbia Heights was repre- sented by All-Conference number one singles player Catherine Braun and number two singles player Jane Holin. Heights also sent the doubles team of Patti Rengo and Liz Taylor. unsung , 'ct B-SQUAD GIRLS TENNIS US THEM 6 Spring Lake Park 1 7 Forest Lake O I 2 Blaine 5 1 Coon Rapids 6 1 Mounds View 6 3 Kellog 4 1 lrondale 6 4 Ramsey 2 -K vs 2 Anoa 5 A C 1 Osseo 6 .Yy,N2,X'Q 7 Fridley O AT rrr'r dsrdi r :.i:i5i?f.i1gt2. irr2', 5 il 1 rag I! They ended one of their best seasons ever with a 7-2 record. With captains Rob Blanc, Dick Petkoff, Pat Keefe, Joe Gafkhen, and other mem- bers ofthe team, there should be a lot of potential for a super varsity team next season.
