Language lab is a fun part of learning. The language clubs have had a shift of advisors this year with the addition of Ms. Swisher CFrenchJ and Ms. Spielman CGermanJ to the faculty. The clubs started out the year with a hayride, combining all of the language students. The big event of the year was Foreign Language Week, which was held the week after Thanksgiving. Once again the foreign language groups assembled together. Posters were made and put up throughout the school in order for others to be aware of and to observe foreign language week. The clubs invited eighteen exchange students from surrounding schools and combined classes for the day. The eighteen students shared their feelings and exper- iences of being foreign exchange students. lt proved to be a very fun and educational day. The foreign language clubs also sponsored a disco dance held in the high school gymnasium, and it is said to be one of the most successful dances held at Heights. Since food is always on everyone's minds, the language clubs easily solved this problem by having a potluck din- ner. Everyone brought something from a different coun- try and the name of the dish was placed beside the food item.

Cheerleaders Posess Hylander Pride nf-sillnytl - ' 1. . 5... ... I 'vi 1. .1 Wrestling: First Row- Karen Roy. Second Row- Patty Spaeth, Julie Pfaff, Donna Werner. Third Row- Sue Buttweiler. Fourth Row- Karen Novitsky. They're perky! They're peppyl Who are we talk- ing about? The cheerleaders, of course!! The en- thusiastic group of young women who bring to life our Hylander Spirit. Most of us just think of cheer- leaders as cheering at games, meets, and pep- fests, but they do so much more. In addition to performing skits at Christmas time and at Frost Daze, the cheerleaders put on coffees for the parents, make crazy and creative announce- ments, and spend many long hours working on locker signs to show their pride in our teams. There are those of you who are saying if you have seen one cheerleader, you have seen them all. Wrong! Each year the cheerleading squads are as individual and unique as the personalities that make them up. So let's hear it for the cheer- leaders. Rah! Rah! Rah! Football. Carolyn Rozmark, Betsy Rooney, Vicky Pertinen, Mary Rooney, Tracy Gierde, Laura Duffy, Sue Buttweiler, Diane Rak. Hites cheerleaders in action. i Carolyn shakes it up at a pepfest. u il
