QS This year, in preparation for our Thanksgiving can drive, the students put forth a lot of hard work and energy by collecting about 5400 cans. Our Thanks- giving assembly was held on Wednesday, November 22, with representatives from SACA and Eden House. They congratulat- ed us and gave thanks to our student body for the effort they put into the can drive. Everyone left with a feeling of worth and appreciation, after laughing at them- selves and past generations with Mark Scharonbroich, our guest speaker. He told of what might be called the true meaning of Thanksgiving. lt's not impor- tant what's on the table, but who's there and how important and valuable these people are.

With thoughts of Santa Claus, reindeer, bells ringing and trees glittering, what else could it mean, besides it's Christmas time! Columbia Heights joined the spirit of the season by putting on their annual Christmas Assembly. The day started out right with the special express delivery of our very own candy-grams. The voices of our choir could be heard throughout the halls ringing in the spirit of Christmas. The highlight of the day came as the assembly began and who should ap- pear but Good Old Saint Nick. His reindeer looked slightly familiar, but we won't say anything if the stu- dent council doesn't. Student pressure came into clear view as the faculty announced that morning they wouIdn't put on their traditional skit. Low and behold, due to student de- mand we heard the Norwegian Christmas Carol Oh Lutefisk, joined later by the cheerleaders' own ver- sion of the Twelve Days of Christmas. And what assembly would be complete without the band, choir and of course, our own Hyland Lassies.
