What scenes are we talking about? We are talking of the scenes of the thousands oj students that have enrolled in CBC during the past twenty-seven years. Before our arrival as new students, we searched and we experimented, but only we and our shadow existed. In our search we found the meaning to our existence: knowing Jesus Christ. God guided our investigation here to deepen our relationship with Him. Who worked before the scenes of our arrival? Who opened our first letters of inquiry? Who faithfully supplied us with adequate preliminary information? We would like to thank and recognize the one to whom this annual is dedicated for directing and preparing for the admittance of the thousands of students that have enrolled here in the past twenty-seven years. We. the class of ' 73, dedicate the 1972 Finial to you. Rev. Supplee 1894-1972 Through the years, Mom and Pop Supplee have had a very special ministry with scores of alumni and students by their lov- ing interest, faithful correspond- ence, and prevailing prayer. After a crippling accident and difficult months of suffering, Mom slipped into the presence of the Lord on January 10. She will be remembered as one who hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken from her, who sat at Jesus ' feet and heard His Word, and who en- riched the lives of all who knew her. Reverend Norwell Frye 1913-1971 To all who knew him, and especially to those with whom he worked behind the scenes, the grace and love of the Lord was constantly mani- fested. Mr. Norwell Frye, formerly pastor of a church in Maine, worked side by side with the kitchen staff at C.B.C. for five years. His passing, after a short illness, impressed upon us again the need to turn to God for the solace and joy His Word affords. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints (Psalm 116:15). 44 45 46 FACULTY Rev. J. Otis Braswell, Dean of Men, Philosophy Dr. Lee I. Bruckner, Sr., History, Missions Rev. This season began with the first game on the Carolina field. Although the Gamecocks had greatly improved from last year, the Cougars with only two practices defeated the ' Birds ' 7-6. The season also included a game with Montreat-A nderson College. The Cougars brought home another exciting victory, 3-0. The finale was played in a return match with USC. The tension mounted as USC dominated the first three quarters; yet the Cougars were not to be denied a perfect winning season, scoring 5-3. All spectators will agree that the Cougars have successfully inaugurated their new name for the 1971 soccer season. 61 64 ± 65 GRITS BOWL ■ ■«  E - Stars 2 Jr. Buzzards 1 66 67 dL ? 68 BASKETBALL This vear the basketball team has been one of those starting from the bottom. Because graduation depleted all but three of last year ' s squad, Coach Matthews has had to pattern a new offense for his young team. Each year the team competition seems tougher, but the Cougars have made the adjustments well, considering their once-a-week practices. They have won the league championship once, in 1965, but have since earned a berth in the play-offs. The Cougars participate in a commercial business league of many good ball clubs, some comprised of Ail-Americans who have an ad- vantage in age and experience. Yet the Cougars are young and fast, and thus far have co mpiled a record of 3 wins and 3 losses. This year the season ends with the commercial league double elimina- tion play-off in addition to some collegiate competition with Toccoa Bible College, and for the first time ever — a game with Piedmont Bible College. % 23 % ' m mem ■Wi 70 71 72 73 Bob Mc Andrew, Pres Pam Toomey, Sec. Dot tie Piper, Treas. Stan Smith, V. Pres. 74 This year the Student Activities Committee has attempted to help bridge the gap between faculty and students. They arranged monthly Sunday night rap sessions when students were able to rap with the faculty on topics including rock music, war, and self-defense. For the first time each class sponsored monthly singouts. Con- sistently, students were seen packed into the Commons ready to vocalize their praise to our God with songs and estimonies. Student involvement in various contests — including the Blood Drive, Class Spirit, Name the Team, Skit Night, and State and Country Day — has helped to break the monotony of studies. Most of all it has served the highest objective of this committee: encouraging an atmosphere for vital fellowship and fun. 75 Bob McA ndrew , Pres. F. M. F. Prayer Group Leaders 76 Foreign Missions Fellowship F.M.F. is an organization run by the students to serve the students. This is accomplished by chapels devoted to special speakers and prayer for missions. Saturday evening programs present the needs and prob- lems of missions world-wide; prayer groups concentrate on specific geographical areas enabling individuals to share and support those who work in different parts of God ' s vineyard. This year F.M.F. challenged student interest in missions, and sought to answer questions that face students as they respond to God ' s leading in a changing world. As Christ is kept central, He is able to work in the hearts of the students. fjv. . w 5S0 ►. 9t 1 ' Hi 1 •jSSS J P I I i il Mark Thomas, Pres. 77 Dorm Council Doug Tilley, Pres. Larry Campbell, V. They initiated early morning broadcasts on WCBC and provided the campus with breakfast music. The Radio Club also began the trial project of a ham station to serve CBC. When this project is fully developed, it will benefit the student body by pro- viding instant communication with the foreign lands. Above all, students have learned to work together, to lielp and be helped, as they have sought to serve our campus in the technical world for His glory. 25 ' - Bill Tarter, Pres. The student newspaper, the CeBeCean, in addition to daily news and sports reporting, contains features of campus interest. For example, the CeBeCean has printed personality sketches. Christian Service reports, a Woman ' s Column, a Nurse ' s Advisory Column, and the New Peanuts. An innovation for this year is a weekly publication of the news- paper — totalling nearly thirty issues annually. Supplements con- taining literary productions of our own school talent have also been added. Campus announcements and other items of general interest are now being incorporated in one place — the student ne wspaper. The CeBeCean Staff 86 VOL. They range from labor- ers ' jobs through clerical and profes- sional. Assignments are available, many of which do not require passage of an examination. The number of jobs may be relatively small and applicants cannot be assured of employment. World Watching The president of the New York City Board of Education, Isaiah E. Robinson, recently stated publicly that if as- trology is correct, behavioral problems in the classroom are caused by a con- flict in birth signs between pupils or between pupils and teacher. Robinson called on the American educational system to include astrology along with other training or help teachers to understand their pupils. There is increasing speculation along with some evidence that as a re- sult of the New American policy toward Red China, Taiwan will begin clamping down on visas for new American mission- aries seeking to enter the island. For nearly two decades Taiwan has been open and cordial 1jp Christian missionaries. TOcdO ®®@s tOWIl Can you give me a concise defini- tion of love as the fruit of the Holy Spirit? One of the alumni contributions is that of channeling students to the college. Many alumni send their own children; others recommend CBC to prospective students. The alumni also play a significant role in their financial aid to the college. Tuition and fees pay only a scant two- thirds of the cost to train a student at CBC. The balance is financed by contributing friends, over one half of whom are alumni. 89 90 ' a time to speak, and a time to keep silence.
