Property of Alumni Ministries Please do not remove. l ' |4vAA VAA.ff - ' My times are in Thy hand ' THE JUNIOR CLASS PRESENTS FlNIAL ' 58 COLUMBIA BIBLE COLLEGE ' -hyJcQ My times are in Thy hand-- That hand pierced through for me. My future, be it dark or bright, Is known, O God, to Thee. And I can trust that hand, Disfigured for my sin, To guide me in the darkest night, Or through war ' s frightful din. My times are in Thy hand, How safe their keeping place; Nor would I for a moment short Remove them. O disgrace That I should ever be Reluctant or afraid, my God, To trust my times with Thee ! --Winifred Sandberg • ; : .-. .X:y:. ' :. , : i v ....■■■:- The Lord upholdeth him with His hand. Dear Seniors: As we think of each one of you, and the significance of the completion of your Bible College course and the days tnat now lie ahead for you, we are reminded that God has designated you as His vessels -- earthen vessels (2 Cor. 4:7), chosen vessel (Acts 9:15), a vessel unto honour (2 Tim. 2:21). An earthen vessel, that you may know the necessity of putting your dependence completely upon Him. A chosen vessel, tnat you may bear His Name and not your own. A vessel unto honour, that you may ever be clean and meet for the Master ' s use. Our love and prayers go with you. As always, in Him, His hands keep us in time The hands of Christ were always busy hands from the carpenter shop days of Nazareth until they were nailed to the cross. His hands were busy about the Father ' s business -- busy bringing joy and encour- agement to countless lives -- busy raising the dead and healing the sick and bringing sight to the blind. Mr. Bill Supplee, to whom we dedicate the FINIAL of 1958, is one who has consecrated his hands to the Master ' s service. Because he was willing to say, Take my hands and let them move at the impulse of Thy love, God took his han ds and made them busy hands for Him. They can often be seen skill- fully directing the choir or playing the piano or leading the student body in singing the beloved Gospel songs or in performing numerous other duties which are his at C.B.C. Truly his hands keep us in time. In addition to busy hands, he has a burdened heart --a heart anxious that we students receive all of God ' s will for our lives and a heart concerned that the message of the Gospel of Christ go into all the world. For his devoted service to our school and to God, and for his testimony among us we are grateful. TUCKER Mis. SUPPLEE BONNIE DONALD . . . according to the good hand of his God upon him ' + . . . -« . Mr. Supplee is known af- fectionately by his students and friends as Pop -- and he fits the role very well. Pop Supplee and Mom, Mrs. Supplee, have become an indispensable part of the Senior class. In fact, Mr. Supplee refused to become Senior class advisor unless Mom could come, too. Mr. Supplee received his B.A. at Pennsylvania State University and his M. Ed. at the University of Pittsburgh. From 1921-1949 he was a missionary to India. During these years he acquired valuable experience and practical knowledge which he can use here at school in his missions courses. Mr. Supplee has been at Columbia Bible College since 1951, and he has won a place in the hearts of the students, to whom he will always be known as Pop. It is designed to bring the wives of students into fel- lowship with one another and the Bible College. They meet twice a month. The programs are planned to assist the wives and mothers in the spiritual, practical, and social aspects of training for Christian service at home or abroad. The topics dealt with include the family altar; Christian hospitality; family life on the mission field; cake decorating; disciplining children; inexpensive, nourishing recipes; Christian etiquette; personal witnessing; Christmas suggestions; arts and crafts; and many other subjects; that the woman of God may be thoroughly furnished and prepared unto every good work. 34 the hand of thy God. THE DIRECTED TEACHING DEPARTMENT Miss Nancy Havlick Borrowing pictures Miss Sarah Overstreet advising prac- tice teacher. The climax of practical training for many seniors is their course in Practice Teaching. This course in- cludes daily teaching in a regular school class for a period of eight to nine weeks. Frequent observa- tions by supervisors are followed by personal con- ferences concerning the student teacher ' s work. This concentrated practical experience under supervision gives the student opportunity to conquer many of the problems which he would otherwise face for the first time after leaving school. The director of the department is Miss Nancy Havlick, who is assisted by Miss Sarah Overstreet. 36 redeeming the time. THE CHRISTIAN SERVICE DEPARTMENTS i wii!;] im.!!.h «I ' :iuc «. One of the unique features of training at Columbia Bible College is the activity of the Christian Serv- ice Departments. Each student is given a weekly assignment, which is varied from year to year. Members of the departments observe each student periodically and confer with him concerning im- proving his service. The most concentrated evangelistic effort is at the State Fair. This year approximately 53,000 tracts were distributed from the booth and on the grounds by personal work teams. The effectiveness of the practical training in Christian Service is shown by the fact that more than 46 o of the 1,182 graduates of Columbia Bible College are on the mission field, and almost all the rest are in full-time Christian work. The joy which comes from following the Lord is evidenced in many ways: by the facial ex- pression, by one ' s singing and by one ' s witnessing. This joy is clearly seen in the life of this year ' s Junior Class advisor, Mr. Charles Wenzel. His smile and friendly manner, and his calm, relaxed way of conducting his classes put everyone at ease. Although he isn ' t a voice teacher, he heeds the in- struction in Ephesians 5: 19: ... singing and making melody in your hearts to the Lord. One of his favorite songs is Jesus Giveth Us the Victory. This victory is demonstrated by his own consecrated life before the student body. His witnessing outside CBC includes speaking on two radio programs, preaching from time to time in various churches, and directing an evening school and a summer camp for Negroes. William Supplee. His quiet humility is known and appreciated by every member of the class. His primary responsibility at CBC is that of head of the Music Department. This includes giving private voice lessons, teaching various music courses, lead- ing the Ambassador Choir, and approving all mu- sical numbers presented by any of the CBC students. In order to adapt the material of the Freshman Music Class to the actual needs on the mission field, he spent last summer in Cuba working with the West Indies Mission. Although Mr. Supplee does not know exactly what is in the future for him, his desire is to be prepared, should the Lord call him elsewhere. These are familiar words to many of the CBC family, particularly those who come as Freshmen and have Mr. Tom Petty for class advisor. These words constitute not only his first testmony, but his testimony down through the years, and his testimony before the present student body. Besides shepherding the Freshman class through the hazards of their initial year, he is Co-Director of Men ' s Christian Service and teacher of Religious Education courses. Although his duties at school would seem to occupy his full time, he has a big responsibility as chaplain of the four penal institutions in Columbia. This work is hard and often discouraging, but the Lord has blessed His servant ' s ministry there. Mr. Petty ' s life could be summed up by a phrase from his favorite song, All for Jesus : Let mine eyes see Jesus only: Let my lips speak forth His praise. Dollar, a Canadian by birth and a very valuable asset to Columbia Bible College since 1950. Mr. Dollar graduated from Gordon College and Gordon Divinity School, and has taken subsequent work toward a Ph. D. at Boston University. Since 1947 he has been pastor of three churches and at present is pastor of Bethany Baptist Church in Cayce, South Carolina. We shall always remember Mr. Dollar ' s interesting and lively history classes and his soul-searching messages.
