occi TtecfA ' P te cCcHt Dear Seniors : These years of association with you here at the Bible College have been a happy experience for many reasons, but above all others is the fact that you have been here in the will of God and for the will of God. In comparison to every other basis of association, this one alone is the secret of fellowship that is real and meaningful. To be in the perfect will of the Lord, and to be train- ing for whatever future service is in the will of the Lord — this has been the blessed opportunity that has been yours at Bible Col- lege. To be in the perfect will of the Lord, and to have some part in training you for the service of the Lord — this has been my joyous privilege these years. And now our Bible College association has come to an end, but not our fellowship. This will abide, regardless of where we are in coming years, so long as we individually abide in the Vine, and in His will. John 15 : 5 is a glorious theme for the Finial. It points back to the central truth that you have learned at CBC; and it points ahead, reminding you of the Lord ' s secret for all that is involved in your future life and service. Jesus never fails — abide in Him. Hudson Taylor gave us the heart of this verse when he said, In all your work for Jesus, be sure that you work with Jesus. The Bible College without Jesus would be nothing; Jesus without the Bible College is still everything. Yours in His sufficiency. Jjo- - .

ecUc itcoH Other schools have classes and bells and books and teachers, but no other school has Buck Hatch! He is a very special and beloved possession of Co- lumbia Bible College. The Rev. James M. Hatch came to the faculty of Columbia Bible College in the fall of 1947 having just received his Master of Arts degree at the Uni- versity of Chicago with a double major-psychology and social studies. If ques- tioned as to why he added social studies he would probably explain that his field of learning was so narrow - he knew nothing about everything, and that would be a typical Hatch remark. He would not mention that this was a difficult un- dertaking. Previously Mr. Hatch had graduated from Duke University where he had been a Pre-Med student, for he had planned to be a doctor. Then one night in his senior year he came to the end of himself and found the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior. That changed everything for him then and forever. He entered CBC as a graduate student in 1936 and three years later re- ceived his Master of Theology. But that was not the most important thing that he received, for here he learned a secret of life, which he would ever after be sharing with others. He learned that Christ did not simply save him and leave him alone, but that He came to dwell within the trusting obedient heart in or- der that He might live out His life through him. He had been limping along in defeat but the moment he saw the truth of an indwelling Christ, he testified that he threw away his crutches and walked! Shortly after finishing his work at the Bible College he was married to a high school sweetheart and took a pastorate of four small churches in Mississ- ippi, where he remained for five years. Here his first two sons were born. Later a third and fourth were born to complete the male quartet. At CBC he has taught Anthropology, Educational Psychology, General and Advanced Psychology, Hermeneutics , Christ in the Old Testament, Prophets, and Epistles. During most of his years in Columbia he has held a pastorate as well. He has been the beloved advisor to more than one class and more and more he has given his time to the counselling of students. Because of his high regard for the married estate he has become the Marryin ' Sam of the Bible College. Somehow lovers feel more secure when Mr. Hatch has tied the knot. When the Junior Class of 1954 chose for the theme of their yearbook, Abid- ing in Christ, they decided that if thatwasthe theme of anyone ' s life and preaching it was of Mr. Hatch, their advisor. They can hear him yet leading their class prayer meeting with the chorus he had adapted: If you want joy, real joy, wonderful joy Let Jesus abide in your heart. And so because of his sweetness, his humilty, his counsel, his love, his scholar ship, his simplicity, his shyness, his diagrams, his grin, his message of exalting Christ we lovingly dedicate this book to BUCK HATCH!
