I John 4:12 His love is THE JUNIOR CLASS PRESENTS THE 1952 FINIAL COLUMBIA BIBLE COLLEGE COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA Contents Contents pgs. 2-3 President ' s Message pg. 4 Dedication pg. 5 Faculty and Staff pgs. 6-11 Class Sections pgs. 12-47 Organizations and Activities pgs. 48-72 Advertisements and Snapshots pgs. 73-99 Index pgs. 100-103 Finis pg. 104 He lives this secret! At home with his family The ' AS . . . SO ' Secret A Greeting from Our President to the Seniors Remember whose son you are, and be a good boy. The famous Bishop Vincent is quoted as saying this to his young son as the boy started on a trip. The boy cheerfully called back: Remember whose Daddy you are, and be a good man. Well, Seniors, as you go forth from C.B.C., shall 1 tell you to remember to be sons and daughters noble; to whom His Grace appeared, to adorn your Alma Mater? You could respond that you will pray for me and the others on faculty and staff that we will be faithful to you young people in holding up the standard of knowing Him and making Him known. It is right to remember them that had the rule over you, even that spake unto you the Word of God (Heb. 13:7). But let our message to one another be in the words of the revised version of 2 Timothy 2:8: Remember Jesus Christ. And this is what 1 want you to remember about Him: As--- So. As He is, so are we in this world (1 John 4:17). As Christ is not of this world, so we are not of this world (John 17:14,16). As the Father loved Christ, so Christ loves us (John 14:10). As Christ loved us, so we are to love one another(John 14:12). As the world hated Christ, so the world will hate you (John 14:18,19). As Christ kept His Father ' s commandments and abode in His love, so we are to keep Christ ' s commandments and abide in His ' love (John 14:10). As thou hast sent me into the world, sa id our Lord to the Father, even so have 1 also sent them into the world (John 17:18; cf. John 20:21). These are tremendous, overwhelming facts about you — greater far than any diploma or degree. Believe them! Live them I Then you will re-live His life among men. Mother and Daddy McQuilkin M HONOR By their loving devotion to one another, by their unselfish lives lived for Christ, two fa- miliar persons on campus have endeared themselves to us as symbolizing the spirit of CBC. The picture of these servants of the Lord walking hand in hand in CBC ' s halls will al- ways remind us of the loving unity of the Spirit to be prac- ticed by sons and daughters noble to whom His grace ap- peared. President of the Board of Directors of Columbia Bible College since its beginning, he has prayerfully guided the founding group through times of stress as well as blessing. Quiet and unassuming, she has stood with him in faith seeing God raise up the Bible Col- lege. With thanksgiving to God for their constant exam- ple of cheerfulness, humble faith and God ' s abounding grace in lives yielded to Him, the Junior Class dedicates the 1952 FINIAL to MR. AND MRS. H. Eph. 3:19 Come on up MR. JAMES HATCH, Advisor A For- During preceding years at CBC the Seniors were richly blessed as the Lord taught them through their faithful teachers and personal experiences. On entering their last year, however, there was a deeper realization than ever before that they needed more reality in their relation- ship to the Lord. Many of the chapel messages seemed to be intended by God to meet that need, as did the mes- sage of their faculty advisor, Mr. Hatch, at the climax of the Senior Sneak. Under the leadership of President Larry Brown, Vice- President Dan Sulc, Secretary Jane Shute and Treasurer John Banks, one of their goals was to come to love the whole CBC family more than ever before. The fellow- ship of the JANE SHUTE, Secretary JOHN BANKS, Treasurer and join me ! ward look Senior socials and the school socials helped toward the realization of this goal. Another important factor in crea- ting more love for the family was the sharing of one an- other ' s burdens in class prayer meetings. Perhaps their goals could be summed up in their year verse, Philippians 2:2: Make my joy complete by being of one mind, united in mutual love, with harmony of feel- ing, giving your minds to one and the same object. Having come to know the Lord in a way that they had not known him before, the Seniors look forward to making Him known in many different places at home and abroad. They soon learned, however, that these privileges were well -flavored with responsibilities. Keep- ing pace with their instructors in theology, science and her- meneutics was a difficult job, yet through these courses the class experienced thegreat joy of an increasing familiarity with God ' s Word. The usual role of a Junior was well -filled by each class mem- ber, as many hours were spent in trying to discover the Senior Sneak destination, and as more time was given to the class projects, the FINIAL and the Junior-Senior Banquet. It was through this working one with the other in the love of the Lord, that the Junior Class realized anew that in Christ we are one. In a very unusual way the class was united in love and purposeful prayer as theyselected two specific mission- aries for a class prayer project. Gradually thisfirst haze of impres- sions: faces, schedules, bells swerved to fit into a pat- tern which, as time passed, the Freshmen realized was life at CBC. A challenging realization was that each new member of the family had been prayed in and prayed for by the faculty and staff during the preceding year. Prayer, then, became the keynote of thisfirst year together under George Vines, class representative, and Mr. Thomas Petty, class advisor. Receiving the good foundation of N4r. Sells ' and Mr. Hoke ' s Bible and philo- sophy courses, the class now looks forward to three more full years of knowing the Lord at CBC. Representing 18 states and three foreign countries, these Graduates earned many varied de- grees, including anthropology, business adminis- tration, engineering, and agriculture, at 39 dif- ferent colleges and universities. On this basis, they came to receive vital training, both practical and spiritual, with the goal of bearing the saving gos- pel of Christ to a lost world. Highlight of the fall semester was the Grad re- treat at Heise ' s Pond. With Or. G. Allen Fleece, class advisor, as God ' s spokesman, these mission- ary volunteers realized anew that the praise of His glory is the highest privilege and very purpose of the Christian life and service. Long an interest of the Graduate class, the Catawba Indians were chosen as class project for this year. As part of the program of evangelization and teaching, each Grad adopted a Catawba child for special interest and prayer. For the daily challenge of classes under conse- crated men of God, for the vast opportunities of Christian service, for the rich fellowship which has drawn the class together by the lasting link of prayer — this year ' s Graduate class gives thanks to God. Let every one of us please his neighbor for his good to edification. Romans 15:2 GLORIA SIMON Secretary ALDA MAY WILLIAMS Treasurer DR. Advisor, MISS SARA PETTY i aWflJh, And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works. Heb. 10:24 48 c OUNCIL ersonal Contact With Every Student  We will not be satisfied this year with simply leading and making plans for the student body as a whole, but be- yond that we want to have a personal leadership touch with every student. From its first meeting the Student Council set about reaching this goal of an individual touch with the stu- dents. For small group s they sponsored dormitory parties, and for individuals they exercised leadership through the counselling of the Morale Committee under C.B.C. ' s system of Student Re- sponsibility. This year ' s Council was hard-work- ing in its group leadership discuss- ing problems, making recommenda- tions to the Faculty, and helping stu- dents to understand their responsibility to obey those in authority as unto the Lord. Behind everything the Council did was prayer — prayer for unity and power among the students, prayer for the Lord ' s blessing which maketh rich, and He addeth no sorrow with it. 1. THE CHALLENGE TO GO - Realizing that God ' s passion is for the unreached, speakers and student par- ticipation programs made prominent the missionary call. At least one-eighth of the student body attended the FMF Regional Conference held bi-annually at Toccoa, Georgia, where many have answered the call of missions. By means of deputation teams, FMF challenged young people of many surrounding churches and col- leges with Christ ' s command to reach every tribe. THE CHALLENGE TO GIVE - The financial goal of FMF for this year was $1,500.00. This money was sent out in five-dollar gifts to CBC alumni on the foreign fields. 1. President PERRY PRIEST 2. The Christian Service Depart- ment of Columbia Bible College has interpreted this verse by saying, Go ye into all Columbia and preach the gospel. To each student at CBC the words Christian Service denote the vital ministry that the Lord has given in varied churches, Bible clubs, hospitals, street meeting, and schools. Under the direction of Miss Dorothy Strauss, Mr. Otis Braswell and Mr. Thomas Petty, the Christian Service offices carry on a full schedule of placing each CBC student in the place where he is best suited for Serving the lost at Girl ' s School Sowing the Seed Visiting the sick With the Gospel s ERViCE THE NT Men ' s Director, MR. Now, for 1952, the much needed replacement of the benches in the auditorium by tablet arm opera chairs. Other factors contributing to the fellowship among graduates are the pub- lications of the CeBeCequel and Alumni Directory. The annual business meetings and homecoming provide additional means by which graduates keep in touch with one another and with CBC. Officers for this year: J. Otis Braswell President J. The various trios and quartettes (even the im- promptu ones singing in the halls), the soloists: instrumental and vocal, all add their important contribution to the music -life of each student. The Lord has in- deed put a new song in our hearts, and as a family we have loved to sing it. Witnessing Tlirougli Music From many to three 59 1. First Semester Officers 2. Advisor, MR. With this purpose in mind, the members of the society are able to gain practical knowledge of how to con- duct meetings withparlimentary precision, keep abreast of the times by discussion of current world events and have practical experience in leadership. One of the outstanding programs presented by the society was given fpr the benefit of the student body when the topic discussed was Our Younger Generation . The gracious atmosphere of the semi-weekly meetings adds much to the life of the women students. Furnishing Students With CBC News Then hail to the Press! chosen guardian of freedom! strong sword-arm of jus- tice! bright sunbeam of truth! said Horace Greeley. Perhaps Mr. Greeley was a little effusive in his praise of the press, but it remains true that the newspaper has become a necessary and influential part of our society. The CeBeCean, as the branch of the fourth estate at CBC, has also come to be recognized as a necessary part of our lives here. It has served the student body in -- --reflecting student life as a whole --creating interest in student activities --broadening the outlook of its readers --serving as a means of self-expression for the students. In its nineteen years the CeBeCean has grown from a bi-monthly to a bi-weekly publication and has changed from mimeograph to printing. One thing that has not changed is the underlying motive that the CeBeCean might be a publication that helps to carry out the motto: To know Him and to make Him known . Pursuing the field of amateur radio Working Toward a Goal Amateur radio is taking CBC to the far places of the world. Radio Club members have found that the hard work and long hours spent in erecting antennas on top of the girls ' dormitory last y ear were not of South Africa, Belgian Congo, Northern Rhodesia, Brazil, Peru, British West Indies, Haiti, England, Germany, and many other countries and places over the globe. The aim of the club is to es- tablish direct contact with missionaries on the field. Once a con- tact has been established, messages and greetings are exchanged and a schedule is made to contact again at a future date. At present there are three licensed operators at W4PKD and transmitters operating on the 10- and 20-meter amateur bands. The goal of the radio club for the years ahead is to have station W4PKD operating on all of the amateur bands and to establish regular mis- sionary amateur traffic nets throughout the world. 70 Un the spot With the Taculty She loves camp life Their favorite subject Mother Shepherd and one of her flock Our ADVERTISERS THER (S, YOU SEE No STOP S GN, 50 Please t oKjY sto SOT CHECK OUfl. Everyone is doing it, and some are worrying over what it will do to insurance plans. At such a time as this it is good to remember that the cost of a policy with the Fund has not been raised since 1947. This makes our contracts the best value that money can buy. Rates still remain the lowest of any company in the land. As for the future, whatever questions arise, the soundest advice is to put money in savings.
