In 1937, Steve Barrett completed his training at Columbia Bihle College. He spent the next nine years in Zuhdand, South Africa, where he met and married Betty Sywulka, class of 33. Before Bettv contracted tuberculosis, the Lord gave them two little girls, but in June 1946, the disease took her life. Re- turning from Africa in the Spring of ' 47, Steve entered summer school and in the fall began to complete work for his M.A. Steve, president of the Alumni Associa- tion for the year of 1947-48, was unable to continue in this capacity because be was stricken with Leukemia. On May 31, Columbia Bible College granted his M.A. in absentia. Also, in his memory, the Alumni presented the Bible College sign. His faithful, self-sacrificing life will, in time, he forgotten here on earth. But the fruits of that life are eternal. Ji PafeU f ratt 1873-1949 In the early summer of ' 48, he suffered a heart attack from which lie never fully recovered. Unable to continue teaching, he and Mrs. Pratt went to Montreat, North Carolina, where he remained until his death. For his desire to develop in us the power of independent thought; for his rare in- sight in opening to us the secrets of the mind of man and the nature of the uni- verse; for his deep longing that we, as we increased in spiritual knowledge, should be filled with the love of God ; and, above all, for his splendid example of all things fine and true, we pause in grateful tribute to Dr. H. Waddell Pratt, who awaits us in that realm where things of the mind and things of the spirit are one. Page Thirty-seven Student Ateocjxzti n President Bub Borman Vice-President .... The darkroom, which was located in the basement of the middle building, has now been expanded into a lar e, fully equipped darkroom in the basement of the main building.
