STAFF First I Webendorf The dictionary defines staff as coming from a Sanskrit word meaning he sup- ports , or in a military sense as an establishment of officers who assist a commander in the administration, command, and supply of the troops. So the staff members serve quietly behind the scenes to support the program of C. B. C. In the extension department we carry into effect the plans of the board and faculty. In the offices of the president, registrar, or dean we aid in the administration and command of the troops, and in the kitchen, the library, the infirmaries, the guest department, or the business office, we assist in the supply of the many varied needs of these troops of Christian soldiers in training. We rejoice in the confidence that our service is an important part of our Captain ' s plan. ■ 3£v ' MRS. SELLS MISS WOOD MISS BRICGS d MISS MOORE MR. AND MRS. We have been victorious not only in our Christian service and classroom work, but also in social activities — clean-up campaign, football game, picnics, hikes, and class meetings. It is no wonder that our class goes to victory in every undertaking when this prayer is for us: . . . that they may be one, as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that hey also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. Many students are met each week by people who are hungry to hear the word of God in hospitals, Bible clubs, Sunday School classes, and in churches pastored by many of the young men. A new open door this year has been the Bible classes in the public schools taught by members of the senior class in practice teaching. In these and other forms of Christian service there is accorded a daily opportunity to work out in vital experience the knowledge acquired in our courses of study and a means of carrying out the command of the Lord to preach the Gospel to every creature. Since this year has seen the merger of the FMF with the IVF, the spring Regional Conference was held jointly by the two organizations. The week-end deputations have afforded many opportunities to give out the gospel and present the needs of the mission field to the people in and around Columbia. JOHN EWING — The two decades after the election of Dr. John Ewing, minister of the First Presbyterian Church and Provost of the College of Philadelphia, as President of the Fund in 1767. were most difficult. The Revolutionary War brought depreciated currency and the un- certainty of the entire economic structure. The Presbyterian Ministers ' Fund emerged trium- phantly from every other era of war financing in the history of America. • JLhis fund, which has withstood every economic crisis in our national life and has served the clergy generously and faithfully through more than 228 years recommends, out of its abundant experience with a minister ' s financial problems, life insurance as the most practical way to combat inflation and provide financial security in the Post-War World. But will we remember that again, in spite of the rising trend of all other living costs early in 1946, Electricity was probably the only item on a household budget that DID NOT increase in jjrice nor decrease in quality nor was it rationed nor hard to get.
