The greatest step of progress in the growth of the Bible College in recent years has been the acquisition of the men ' s dormitories and grounds during this past school year, 1939-40. Accordingly, The Finial, 1940, is duly dedicated to the men ' s dormitory. May the men of the Lord ' s choice be those that occupy these buildings and may each man ' s purpose be To know Him and to make Him known. The Junior Class. Sj  l Kr  (HaHsas ■KT 1 w lM fe fiP Main Campus AND Auditorium ?he rlrinial ' 40 HbminisJtratmn 9 - -TO MAUI HIM mm riFinicil ' 40 Z5he CvVfen s dormitory dAIiracle The Finial was born the same year that the men ' s dormitory was added to the Bible College property, making our complete C. B. C. campus. It is fitting that the 1940 Finial should celebrate the real miracle the Lord worked in providing this property. The men of the class of 1940 are happy to go out as the first class to be graduated from our own men ' s dormitory property. When we are face to face with impossibilities, many of us will think of this answered prayer in the provision of the first payments of $30 000 to purchase this property. We will ask the question, Is anything too hard for the Lord? (Gen. 18:14), and our answer will be that of Jeremiah: Ah Lord Jehovah! behold, thou hast made the heavens and the earth by thy great power and by thine outstretched arm; there is nothing too hard for thee (Jer. 32:17). But this miracle of answered prayer was not granted to us for either our glory or our selfish enjoyment. It was the Lord ' s gracious challenge to make the real men ' s domitory buildings a miracle of God. Our prayer is that God may send men of His own choice into that dormitory, and that as the men go out, each individual life and the Bible College men as a whole may be living witnesses of the miracle power of God. The finial has not yet been put on the men ' s dormitory property; not all the payments have yet been made. As we look forward in prayer and faith to that supply, may it be symbolic of the fact that one day there will be a final, a crowning adornment of well done upon every one of the Bible College young men. Then it will be as in the prophecy made concerning Zerubbabel, He sh ll bring forth the top stone with shoutings of Grace, grace, unto it (Zech. 4:7). And this is the message to Zerubbabel and to us: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord of Hosts (Zech. 4:6). 40 ®!) JFacuUp J. A. MORRIS KIMBER, M. Phil. 3: 15. •40 The President ' s Greeting to {he Class of 1940 The year of your graduation is a fateful year in the history of the world. As the first graduating class in this present world war, you go out into wider service with new emphasis upon the fact that you are soldiers of the Lord Jesus Christ, our conquering King. You go out with a perfect understanding of what His plan of campaign is — to take the Gospel to the uttermost part. You go out with absolute certainty as to the outcome of the conflict. You go out knowing that the present war among the nations is a part of the age-long conflict between God and Satan, and that Christ is controlling every event. You go out with the joy of knowing that He is also controlling your life, and is as definitely interested in your individual plans as He is in the whole conflict. This, of course, is a challenge not to self- importance, but to a life that has no individual plans of its own except as they are related to Christ ' s program and purpose. To me to live is Christ. A finial is described as a crowning adornment. My prayer for each of you, and for your class as a whole, is that you may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things. Then one of the things that will make 1940 a notable year is the fact that this class was graduated from C. B. C. and went out to glorify Christ. Gal. 2:20 21 . -2 t mr ;GGI ' 40 Farewell to the Seniors The aspiration of every Senior is to scale the heights of ser- vice as he enters a future made certain by the promises of God. The name of the yearbook, The Finial, is symboHc of aspiration. Far above Hampton Street reaching in the quiet- ness of the pure atmosphere toward the ceihng of the heaven are two small projecting budlike rods, two finials. In their aloofness from the world below, in their upward reach, in their pristine dignity they represent in eloquent style the challenge of future service for the Senior class. It is our prayerful expecta- tion that as the finials on the Bible College towers lift men ' s eyes toward heaven your lives may fulfill in a deeper measure that sacred purpose. The Junior Class Thy tow ' rs are pointing upward Toward God and heaven and light Tribute to C. B. C. Undisturbed stars move in their courses above the crowning finials, while black robed figures advance along the aisle. Better known in heavenly places than to sons of men is Co- lumbia Bible College. It has come at last, the day for which we have lived and longed; but with it comes the ache of leaving friends and countless things we have learned to love. We have found in these halls a higher standard and a nobler aim, and surely, when will our thirst for knowledge again find relief at a fountain sweet as this? Four years, all too short to quench the burning dryness in our hearts; but there is a well of praise springing up, a fountain of living water— a Person, the Lord Jesus Christ. We thank you for giving us — Him. The Class of ' 40. 40 Graduates of the Two-Yea r Course LULA ANNE BECKER, Asheville, N. C. Class secretary-treasurer II; Bible College chorus I, II.
