Askegaard, the man to whom we of the Neconia staff gratefully dedicate this 1959 annual. Assistant Director and Registrar are his official titles, but he has been much more than that in the growth of Columbia Basin 5 College. Always willing to take the time to help, he has been J 1 of great assistance to the students of C., B. C. during these first Y . . . . 5 years of college which are so important in laying the groundwork 5 for the future. He has worked diligently toward making our junior college one of the largest in the state. E- .Ky Thus, Mr. Askegaard, we dedicate this Neconia to you in H sincere appreciation for your unstinting service to the stu- Z ' dents and the college, and with best wishes for continued I successful years in the work you have chosen. 5 I Organizations 4 ,KF up . au' Q' OM KQALLAAV A.S.B. President Sully Bayliss psalm 'll wi as s A philosopher of man ears past said, What you have in- herited from your fathers, earn over for yourselves or it Will not be yours. From the cradle to the deathbed we are told that our inheritance is freedom and yet if ever something has to be 2 earned and re-earned from gen- eration to generation it is free- dom. Freedom is the product of creative thinking and hard work and it will not tolerate indifference, complacency and languor. Our educational system in America of which the faculty and students at CBC are but a minute part has recently come under vilification for fostering the very things odious to freedom. It has been said the life adjustment and bachelor cooking courses prevail in our curricula, pure intellectual achievement is shirked and that only athletic prowess is not held in contempt by Joe Student of America. I for one believe that adjustment, conformity, the easy Way out and the least common denom- inater has seen its day in this country and its day is down the drain. It is up to each of us to sustain the posture of freedom to pass the inheritance of our fathers on as an inheritance to our children. The inheritance of freedom. 9 Ray Reynard Vice President Dave Ever itt To ny Burke Judy Hett Secretary Mr. Jim Devine Advisor Student Council Frank Keys I O Nancy Provins Larry Fairchild Publicity Manager Rich Beck C urt J etto n Pat Todorovich Dick Mullins Treasurer ll Tom Webb Athletic Comm is sio ner Tom Berry Shirley Mansfield E ditor Neconia X s Mr. Howard Kiehlbauch Advisor 12 Mr. Hal Akins Advisor Linda Mabry Associate Editor Karl Harder Business Manager Left to right: R. B. C. 's football squad, although unable to com- pile an impressive win-loss record, provided its fans with many thrills this year as well as garnish- ing a number of honors. The Hawks, who were crip- pled by injuries to several key players, were never able to get rolling, and as a result finished the season with a 1-7 mark. The lone victory was a 6-0 triumph over George Fox College. Highlighting this year's football season were the homecoming activities. In the featured attraction the Hawks played what was probably the best game in their three-year history, as they fought the powerful Everett Trojans to almost a standstill before bowing, 30-20, in a tightly fought contest. 47 Coach Akins Ron Se1pert Dave Zank Merr111 Blau' sf-a , 5 ,f HM 55 6:4 f sv' ,Wm Si? aifim if W K5 ff QW ia Les Rurey MW. f 4, B111 E1ckmeyer Floyd Adams Paul Ratsch Fred Shaffer mm. ! im, 3 Q 1 W 'XI ,I If 'jnpu r Msg ' Wx 'X N gag' ,Q Ken Jacobs Dave Ever1tt DeWayne Pearson Glenn Humphrey - - ggvsiss Ziff? !,.:Er1,ff,ja,Z5I5f 23g2'1yz,w iEMfi5ggxS3 A lnmjgg ig, We ' Lf-ffm 'NT' Lx U -My' U!,':G9,, ,L - iw ' J i A fk-. Baseball On the strength of early season victories over the U. of Idaho and the Walla Walla Stealers the Hawk's Horsehiders look like a strong bet to repeat as Division champs. However they must get past the always strong Yakima crew which has made a habit of Winning the state title. Coach Pyne has good depth again. Led by letterman Tony Burke on the mound and such stalwarts os Larry Brown, Billy Johnson, Marv Marchbanks, Roy Mohondro, and newcomers, Rich Beck, Willard Nelson, Larry Girsberger, and Chuck Miltenberger, the Hawks will be a contender.
