De bc: te Champs Ralph Davis and James Longwell were the only returning members of the CBC debate Squad when college began in September 1957. By mid-quarter Daryl Johns and Craig Cox had joined the Squad and the four represented CBC at the Columbia Valley Invitational Forensic Tourna- ment at WSC. In addition, the Debate Squad hosted ten high schools in the Tri-City area at a Debate Clinic on October 26, 1957. With the advent of the winter quarter, Sully Bayless, Lynn Bryson, Alberta Larsen, Vera- lee Larsen, Tom Beckett, and John Paul Sevedge joined the Squad. On February 15, the Squad hosted eleven high schools from the surrounding area in the 2nd Annual CBC Invitational Forensic Tournament. During the first week in March, eight members of the Squad repre- sented CBC at the Pacific Northwest Forensic Tournament at McMinnville, Ore. Since Columbia Basin College was selected as the site for the 1958 Washington State Junior College Forensic Tournament on April 11 Sz 12, nine members of the Debate Squad were able to participate. In this tournament, CBC won its first forensic trophy--First Place in Debate. 100
