The battle for the allies has been wonj With victory come new problems, new perplexities. Life becomes more complex, competition greater. Return- ing veterans will enter the various fields of endeavor, striving for mastery. Senior Class of '46, you have chosen a fit- ting motto, Out of the Harbor into deep Waters. 'I trust that greater indeed will be your preparation, for there is always room at the top. With the trend of the times, the unrest, the disregard for propriety and order, comes an ever increasing need for labor in His vineyard. lfor, as you work for others you will assure yourselves of that most worthy aim, Anchored in Heaven. Though the Association was late in organizing We have had a very eventful year filled with interesting programs and entertainments. TW-o chapel programs and a Friday night vespers were sponsored by the Spiritual committee. The Social and Cultural Committees Worked together in preparing two Saturday night programs of games and marches. Our Christmas party held December 19th, and the formal Valentine Banquet on February 16th Were two joyous evenings for the students. Those who were talented fared well March 30 at the Amateur Hour. All -of these, not to mention the Student Body picnic, were made possible by these committees. We believe it has been a year in which We have made an advance step in our preparation for our life's work. FRANCES BRUCE. JU lllll CLASS It seems but a few weeks ago that we fell into the coveted rank of being Juniors. As we look back on this year one can call to mind many pleasant memories. Next year we will fill the vacancy left by the Seniors and it is our desire to fill it well. The Class of '47 has had a wonderful time this year because they have all co-operated with one another and done their very best. With the highest peak as our aim, and God as our guide we shall ever be pushing upward. Why not come to Columbia next year and join with the Seniors in making it the best year ever? 1 MARGARET DASHER. Motto-Push, pull, or get out of the way. Aim-The highest peak. The opening day of school here at Columbia found an enthusiastic group of sixty in grades one to eight. That same enthusiasm has carried a fine group of boys and girls through a very successful Ingathering campaign, two outstanding Weeks of Prayer when many decisions were made leading a large group to baptism and church membership, and a campaign in which money Was raised for school needs. In the early spring the Sth grade with an enrollment of twelve organized for graduation. A trip to Mt. Hood with many snovv activities was the out- standing event for this group. Though this has been a very busy year and the days seem to fly by it has been a good year in our experience and one long to be remembered. This friendly group of boys has enjoyed another year of school and play together. It has been a year in which We tried to develop good habits which will help us through life. Through our association together we have had dormant abilities brought to life and developed. Thus we are stronger and better fitted for the work that lies before us. It has been both a pleasant and a profitable year. RONALD FLATT. KUVILLA CLUB UFFICERS r i Kovlim own BIIYS' GLEE CLUB f GIRLS' GLEE CLUB The Music Department has had an outstanding record this school year with an enrollment of one hundred and five piano and voice students. These have been presented in four public recitals. The girls and boys choruses of fifty members and thirty-five respectively presented a fine program on March 23. Th girls' dormitory sextet and village girls' octet, the male quartet and the two mixed quartets have added much to both sacred and secular programs. We are proud of the fine musical talent in the student body this year. a MRS. REIS. MUSIC DEPARTMENT The Band, under the direction of Mr. Howard Henderson, is one of our several musical organizations. Approximately seventeen members have met twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at four-thirty for an hour of intensive practice. On March 23, the Band joined the Glee Clubs in presenting a fine program. In addition to this, the band has furnished music for several other programs during the year. The Brass Quartet and the Clarinet Trio have been lively organizations this year. The members have been faithful in meeting for practice once a week. These special groups have been developed to assist in our Sabbath Music, programs, and banquets. MRS. HENDERSON. BAND During the past year the choir has been an organ- ization of which we are proud. With a membership of thirty-two, this fine group has helped to make each church service a nicer one. T hey have learned many beautiful numbers with the assistance of their di- rector, Mrs. Reis. H The beautiful tones of a Hammond electric organ are indeed an inspiration at each church serv- ice. This organ was purchased for the new church, but We are enjoying its quiet strains in the old church While finishing the new structure. The M. V. Society of Columbia Academy is the training ground for our Christian youth. Here we learn the art of public speaking and are better fitted to go out into the world. Another vital point is that our Christian experience is made better through participation in these meetings and the association of the young people of Columbia Academy. We have two active bandsg the Literature Band giving out handbills and papers from week to week and the Sunshine Band going to the shut-ins of the communityg bringing them joy and happiness. We also have a goodly number of students working on Progressive Class Work and hope to have several in the investiture service at the end of the school year.
