We would like to give special thanks to Mrs. Gotham and Mrs. Harrison for all the ingenuity and dedication that helped to make our Jr. play the great success it was. We were all amazed at how calm you remained through some of the practices and the disasterous dress rehears- al, Melanie getting sick, Joe having a temperature of 101° opening night, and the usual jitters. Remember when the lights never seemed to go on at the right time and when the dancers had to improvise when the cur- tains mysteriously opened with the wrong music? Mrs. Harrison, remember all that last minute ironing and com- plaints about costumes? Mrs. Gotham, we were all so glad you were able to control your emotions so well! But seriously, we would like to thank you for all the hard work and time you put in to help. We would also like to thank everyone who helped out with make up, costumes, sug- gestions, and great dance lessons. Thank you all so much. We had a great time and our play was a great success! Walter Paul, Roger Murray, Kathleen Howe Graduation is often thought of as an ending to one era and the beginning of another. As this important time looms in front of you, you might instead think of graduation more as an intersection in your lives. A lot will happen at this intersection. You will look around you and make some important decisions about your future. You will have to decide which road will lead you to become the person you want to be many years from now. The fact is, however that as a group you've been very effective team members and major contributors to your school community. It is through your fine team efforts that you've each developed your own personal talents and interests. Knowing this dnd accepting your individual strengths and talents will make the decisions at the intersection a great deal easier. It is our hope for each of you that whatever road you take, you will begin your journey with enthusiasm and confidence in your own ability. At the same time, we want you to know that our expectations for you do not end at the intersection. Well be watching and expecting more from you for many years to come. Our job has been to give you a good basis from which to start. We've tried hard to do that. We assure you that it is with a great deal of pride that we send you off and, to quote a 50's song, , . if we're worth our salt, well wave as you go by. Colton-Pierrepont School Board 1988-89 Roger Murray, President E. Walter Paul, Vice President Donald McNamara, Clerk Kathleen Howe Cynthia LaFountain William LaPierre Rex Spicer Success: “satisfactory completion of something I can't remember the name of the person who spoke at our high school commencement, but I do remember the gist of what he said! He challenged us to succeed in the world and find success. After the speech I scrambled out of the auditorium with my classmates in search of “success: we had no idea what it was, where to look for it, how much it cost or what it looked like, but we all got up each morning and pursued it. Sometimes I hear that others have found it (suc- cess), but when I question these people they seemed to feel they are not rich enough, thin enough, secure enough, educated enough or im- portant enough to call themselves successful. Let me ask you. Class of 1989, who was more successful, skater Debi Thomas, winner of a bronze medal at the Olympics or Eddie the Eagle, the ski jumper from Great Britain, who was last place in his event? Everyone seemed to think it was “Eddie because he did what he thought was not possible for him to do. Maybe, Class of 1989, success can be only self- administered: maybe it is not important to know what success is but more important is knowing when you have achieved “it. Norman Whyte ADMINISTRATION 101 Dear Students: Arriving this year as your new superintendent and elementary principal, I have been pleased with the positive student attitude toward the school and what it has to offer. Colton-Pierrepont is a unique school: it's small in size but has access to many enriching experiences in its Adirondack environ- ment, its supportive faculty and its nearness to two college communities. One of the special qualities I have seen here is that students and teachers utilize the small size to an advantage rather than as a crutch to justify inadequacies. For those of you who are leaving this year, you should be proud of where you have been. For those of you who will return, remember the advantages and the enriching ex- periences are here—it's up to you to explore them in every way possible. Sincerely yours, Mrs. Monroe h a o r 0 v 1 DOLLARS AND $EN$E 24 Arlene McEwen Bernice Campbell Jacqueline Pinover Nancy Fisher David White Sponsored by CPTA Life has many paths, Through hallways or roadways or wooded walks or hilly treks we travel seeking our dreams and goals. Sometimes we meet obstacles. Dangers, our own feelings of inadequacy, pressures from others, or tough choices hinder our progress. Yet, the joys we seek far outweigh any of the sorrow that deter us. As your teachers, we have walked with you on one of your many paths in life. At times the walk was dense and dark, hilly, muddy, or overgrown; and at times it was open enough to skip merrily along. There were times when we led and times when you led. There were also times when we shared the walk side ' side. Our memories of the walk with you have been special. You have added distinction and unique- ness, warmth and joy to our lives. We have given you our time, our knowledge, our wisdom, and our experi- ences. Now it is time to stop and wish you well. Such separations are never easy, but they are necessary. Our paths have reached a fork. Perhaps someday they'll merge again. Meanwhile, we wish you God speed and good luck. May your fu- ture walks be ones that lead others or ones that you'll share in joy. Chaperoning, baking, car pooling, making sure we remembered our sneakers and uniforms, bottle drives, and raffles and most of all just always being there when we needed you. You've tied our laces, cheered at our accomplishments, wiped our tears and made us keep trying. You helped make our Junior year and all our years special. A yearbook is to help keep memories alive.
