Halloween Play, play- ing soccer, Brian's arrival, Kris's arrival, Upper Canada Village We, the Class of 1978, would like to dedicate this yearbook to those who gave us the building blocks for our future . . . the letters that we use to create words, the words we use to create thoughts, the thoughts we use to create opinions, goals, desires, ambitions, feel- ings, experiences, understandings, awarenesses, and impressions. Our elementary teachers were the people who gave us the basics to start our game, LIFE. Cherron's arrival Watertown Zoo leader for the day sounds Organized and formal games need initiators, referees, coaches, time keepers, scorers, and captains. All of these positions are amply filled at Colton-Pi err epont by our administrators. They, too, have various points of view about games and life . . . Mr. Whyte We hear it repeated so often, that it has become commonplace, the great value young men and wo- men derive from participation in sport comes not from the game it- self, but from the by-products which may be realized. All prom- inent coaches, who are really great teachers, not only solidly subscribe to this, but religiously attempt to have it realized. There are two kinds of challenges in sport: the external challenge of the game, and the doubts and fears within the athlete. Those who think of athletics exclusively Mr. Sheeran An essential part of most games is the production of a winner and a loser! To play and never lose is only a dream. To play and nev- er win is almost unbearable. Any game should teach us to try to win - to do our best and at the same time to accept defeat when it comes - to lose well! Life is not much different. We should live the very best we can according to the rules of life in our society and strive mightly. We should not be dismayed when we fail or fall short of a goal. Perhaps the most important part of any game is the joy of playing it. And so with life - live it fully for its own sake, and lose as well as you can when you must. Mrs. O'Gorman Everyone likes to win. We love it, whether it is a game of solitaire or the soccer playoffs. Confidence and high expectations are essential to the winner. Un- derestimation of strengths and value is a hazard to the loser as well as the winner. To be winners we must accept our- selves as we are. We must learn to live with ourselves, overcome our limitations, and capitalize on our strengths. Well, here it j is, 1978, and we haven't seen a hint of the airport they figured Colton would have. Of course, we, the Class of 1978, haven't given up all hope on that airport. We have ideas of our own to add. Check us out in 1998 to see how close we come. Here is a typical television news script for 1998. T. V. Station WWMK 6:00 News Hello, this is Linda Parrotte, and this is Patsy Lenney-we are the co-anchorpeople for the Colton-Pierrepont Early Evening News. It is April first, 1998, and here are the headlines for today: Excitement Shatters Colton Airport Pierrepont Emporium Acquires New Art Exhibit Colton-Hilton Houses World Famous Guest Colton-Pierrepont School Gets a Day Off Patsy Lenney: Before we go on with the news, here is a commercial message from one of our sponsors. Jingle and Song: If you let us drive you there- You are sure to feel the air At the Colton-Pierrepont Airport HUM-Driver Jerry Dunning HLJM-Driver Steve Stowe - 3 part harmony HUM-Driver Tim Murdock This commercial was brought to you by Jill Robar's Checkercar Service. Linda Parrotte: Excitement Shatters Colton Airport Today a three-plane collision on the airstrip at Colton A irport caused chaos. Kevin Austin, pilot of one in- coming plane, Francis Hudar, pilot for an outgoing plane, and Jerry and Larry Olmstead, co-pilots for a twin en- gine 747, explained the reasons for the crash. It seems that world famous screen star and model, Cherron Sutton, was walking down the air field when a gust of wind caught her skirt. All pilots took note of the mishap, and lost control of their planes. Francis' navigator, Cheryl Helmar, tried to correct the mistake, buttono avail. Maintenance men, Richard Coleman, Billy Clough, and Mike Clough had to clear up the wreckage. Stewardesses Tammy White and Fran George escaped injury. Patty Lenney: Pierrepont Emporium Gets a New Art Exhibit Jerome Swift, owner of the Nifty-Swifty Pierrepont Emporium, announced today that Art Collector, Tony Greene, procured a fascinating painting entitled Outstanding is his Field. The picture depicts Brian Thomas, local farmer, holding an upright pitchfork. Wendy Selleck, local librarian, appraised the historic value of the pic- ture as priceless. Barb Burcume, recently elected Mother-of-the-Year, announced that it's a picture that she'd allow her children to see. Debbie Clough, receptionist at the Emporium, notes that business has tripled since the picture arrived. 66 f f.. To'Vftc Activities r 1978 To Of The Future 1998 Linda Parrotte: Colton-Hilton Houses World Famous Guests Today, the Colton-Hilton, owned by Tom Davis and Co-Managed by Pat Shea, was a flourish of activity. Even architect, Richard Cayward, worried about all the extra people using the elevator. The world famous Cherron Sutton arrived with her entourage. Kris Ulrich, hairstylist for Ms. Sutton, brought all her own equipment. Judy Selleck, fashion designer for Ms. Sutton, busied everyone nearby to help her design dresses that are windproof. B.J. Wing, Ms. Sutton's photographer, rearranged lobby furniture by the hour trying to capture the right mood. Melanie VanBrocklin, Postmistress General, said that her department was unable to hold all the fan mail. Lori Pel- letier, postal clerk, make hundreds of trips to the Colton-Hilton with bags of mail. Tonya Hewitt, executive sec- pry at the Hilton, busied herself with orders to head chef, Donald Paige, matre de, Barb Phillips, and waitresses Jpbie Caster and Bonnie Chase. Marty Murphy: The weather for tonight, folks, looks dark. I can predict sunrise to be early and sunset to be late. Relating to theMeadline story about Colton-Pierrepont Central School getting a day off, is the next weather news item. Strong nds gusted from the plains of South Colton causing drifts of sand to be deposited all around. The school was completely buried causing a close down, newly dubbed a SAND DAY. For further information, here's Duane White, sportsc jter. Duane White: Today, Cmton-Pierrepont Soccer practice was cancelled due to dry weather conditions. Tim Shar- low, owner of the Coltor D-ed Cosmos team, who was elated when soccer season was extended until June this year so that players could Live more games, was upset because some vital practice time was missed. Kevin Weems and Barb Wolf, co-captain of the co-ed team had planned their regular grueling five hour practice and were also dismayed by the weatherp nnette Hoyt, team member, was quoted as saying, I can't wait until this dry season is over.
