Text from Pages 1 - 95 of the 1973 volume:

I have died in Viet Nam. But I have walked the face of the moon. I have befouled the waters and tainted the air of a magnificent land. But I have made it safe from disease. I have flown through the sky faster than the sun. But I have idled in streets made ugly with traffic. I have littered the land with garbage. But I have built upon it a hundred million homes. 1 have divided schools with my prejudice. But I have sent armies to unite them. I have beat down my enemies with clubs. But 1 have built courtrooms to keep them free. I have built a bomb to destroy the world. But I have used it to light a light. I have outraged my brothers in the alleys of the ghettos. But I have trans- planted a human heart. I live in the greatest country in the world in the greatest time in history. But I scorn the ground I stand upon. I am ashamed. But I am proud. I am an American. % 0 MacManus, John, and Adams, Inc. etteatietv The Senior Class of 1973 has had little trouble in choosing the single person to whom their yearbook should be dedicated. Although Mr. Sprow has been here only for three years, he has shown interest, diligence and dedication in the education of the students of Colton-Pierrepont Central. He has worked especially with the Senior Class not only as their class advisor, but as a full-time friend, and our thanks cannot be expressed as the mere dedication of our yearbook. R. WEEGAR - President ScLeahm M. COLHOSEY - Clerk A. THOMAS R. CREIGHTON C. BROWN We, theClassof 1973, wouldlike toexpress our deep appreciation to Mr. Reihl, who has served Colton-Pierrepont for 25 years, on this, his year of retirement. Don't you feel a change acoming from another side of time, breaking down the walls of silence lifting shadows from your mind- Placing back the missing mirrors that before you couldn't find filling mysteries of emptiness that yesterday left behind And we all know it's better Yesterday has past , . . now let’s all start living for the one that's going to last. Changes IV by Cat Stevens R upeWiAing It is common for principals to address the loftiest of sentiments to the graduating class in this yearbook dedication spot. Unfortunately, it is almost equally common for those sentiments to remain largely un- read and almost completely unfulfilled. I don't ex- pect to change all that by what I say here. I do hope to emphasize the simple fact that what counts is not my dedication, but YOUR DEDICATION. What counts is that strength and determination each graduating person brings to bear on his own de- terminations about his own future. The family, the school, even the broader society have done, for good or ill, whatever they have done. Each graduate must now do something with what he has and what he is. Little can be gained from anything but determination to progress from where each of you is right now to whe e you want to be X years hence. Each of you is now his own master. I hope you will prove that you have learned to make sound decisions about personal goals and will dedicate yourselves to achieving those goals. I am confident, that if you do so dedicate your- selves, that nothing can stop you short of your goals. Good luck to each one of you. Mr. Sheeran 1 r )((■ (t(ni s C ffu.
