CLASS PROPHECY Sitting in a bookcase in a school library can be pretty dull, so we books entertain each other by telling stories. The other night we got talking about our readers and remembered the class of ’55 who shared our room their senior year. “What ever happened to those kids?” one of us asked. “I always thought they were destined for success. Has anyone tried to keep track of them in the past years?” Several books had contributions to make, and this is what has become of those seniors. Helen Leary owns and operates a very successful taxi and chauffeuring service between Colton and South Colton. She recently published a short manual for taxi drivers entitled “When and How To Blow a Horn.” Keitha James married a doctor and they now have their own private hospital with Keitha as head nurse. Her night supervisor is Bev Matthews who has great fondness for late hours. Eileen Norman is a fashion designer in New York City. She specializes in clothes for tall girls. Gail Gould is also in New York City. She works as private secretary to a theatrical producer. Janet Cayey was chosen by the telephone company to organize and supervise a new tele- phone service at the South Pole, a region recently developed by that world-famous engineer, Ed McCarthy. Ed relied heavily on the lumbering crews of lumber tycoon Ray Colvin and Ray himself supervised the job of clearing the area. Anne Olmsted is. conducting a charm school in Malone, a village for which she always showed a fondness. She has also written a series of articles entitled “How To Keep Beautiful While Living on a Farm.” Colleen Leary is well-known in mathematical circles. She has formulated a new logarithm table that revolutionized trigonometry and made it infinitely more simple. Francis Thomas and Merton Scovil made fortunes in Africa where they accidentally found an emerald mine. Last year they sent all the girls that were in their class an emerald ring for a Christmas present. John Hayes is the only millionaire farmer in the North Country. He has eliminated accidents with his car by using his own helicopter. Mildred Hammond is the wife of an army Colonel and now lives in Washington, D.C. Jim Regan became a career soldier. He is now a brigadier general and the army has made use of his persuasive powers by placing him in charge of recruiting volunteers. Elbert Whitcomb is well-known among our students as Truant Officer for C. P. C. S. Melita Vanderburg now owns and operates the Vanderburg School of Dancing which special- izes in jitterbugging. Sally Schwartz is curator of an art museum which specializes in driftwood art. “What ever happened to Miss Collins?” asked one of my companions. “Oh, didn’t you hear?” caroled one of the old encyclopedias. “Miss Collins left teaching and is now publishing high-school yearbooks.” Daytime and schooltime! The library isopenfor business again. It was very pleasant for us books to catch up on the lives of our old friends of twenty years ago, THE SENIOR CLASS OF ’55. Class Prophet Sally Schwartz
