of Dan be1ng Bop Kmg wasn't the only one I rece1ved but I used to know h1m In fact my f1rst year was 1n the treasury of the Sen1or Class of 1950 at C P C S of wh1ch Dan was pres1dent I'll never forget how proud I was when I entered New York w1th that class on the1r Easter tr1p twenty years ago It was durxng the Easter Parade on F1fth Avenue that Mrs Hawley dropped me caus1ng me to lose track of them unt1l now It 1S fate 1tself that after all these years of travel1n n1ght and day through New York I would f1nally come 1n contact Wlt one of them once more I have a strange feel1ng th1s won be the last Wh1le relatlng my past h1story Dan had entered the ' Lat1n Quarter and was watch1ng some of the floor show pract1c1ng a rout1ne All at once h1s hand came 1nto h1S pocket and wh1pped me out Say1ng to a pretty gxrl 'Penny for your thought he put me 1nto her ha d Oh how my penn heart panted' The g1rl looked fam1l1ar surely It was Margaret Cam bell now known as 'Marg Camp Belle of Dance She always was a cute nurnber Peg put me 1nto her mad money bracelet grabbed her coat and I knew we were on our merry way After a f st r1de throu h the c1ty we f1nally stopped at the Blue Angel' better known as Red ev1l famous for 1ts sp1cy food From the conversat1on I found that lt 15 Peg and Dan da1ly rendez vous due to the management by Esther Corcoran another member of the class of 50 Before leav1ng they put me under a plate her d1shes are well known she IS a popular d1Sh herself The wa1tress took me to Esther and also the word that a man W1ShCd to see her Esther carry1ng me 1n her hand walked across the crowded restaurant and stopped at a table where a fam1l1ar look1ng man was seated I heard Esther greet h1m w1th a Hello E1nst1en then I knew who he was Reuben James the second E1nst1en known for h1s theory of 1rrel1t1v1ty' Reub Sald that wh1le work1ng 1n the Lab a few weeks ago h1s latest exper1 ment exploded and he had landed 1n Bellevue under the care of Mary Perkxn known by her classmates as 'Weez1e now head of the nurs1ng staff I thought to myself that hav1ng Weez1e around would be e mough to make any man survxve Lucky Reub' ' ' As a farewell gesture I was handed to Reuben as a good luck PIECE After putt1ng me 1nto h1S shoe the place for charms Reub started walk1ng caught a subway and upon gett1ng off he walked some more When at last he stopped I d1dn't know wher we vere but the roar1ng of the crowd gave me a good 1dea Creep1ng u the de of the shoe I peeked out and saw we were at Ebbets F1eld After the game Wh1Ch of course was a v1ctory for the Dodgers we started out once more th1s t1me to V1S1t the famous team manager Alton Young the boy the school voted best at sports From the conversat1on I gathered that Reub d1dn't th1nk that Alton would make b1g league I heard A1 ask Reub to pay h1S bet and as usual Reub be1n short changed took me out of h1S shoe and banged me down on the taizle Al was about to start on h1s way to see h1s s1ster Leota Young now skatlng champ1on of the world make her debut 1n New York at Mad1son Square Garden I was just enjoymg myself when Al tossed me to a g1rl S S ' ll ' ll ' Q , I . , . 9 , . . . . , I ' .I . , 0 . i , , 1 . Th1s proved to .Je a very act1ve year We were engaged 1n several money makm act1v1t1es such as The sale of Chr1stmas cards a luncheon the sale o chances on a cap and scarf set and our Juruor Prom wh1ch 1ntro duced a new custom that of crown1ng a K1ng and Queen These two per sons were chosen by popular school ballot W1nn1ng were Esther Corcoran Queen Dan Hurley K1ng w1th Margaret Campbell and Reuben James act 1ng as the1r attendants The flower 1rls were Sandra Buck and Kay Thomas wh1le the crown bearers were Jerr cCarthy and Theodore F1sher Thus another year of school l1 e ended Chapter IV Sad ser1ous studlous Sen1ors Some work hard and some do not Always ar u1n w1th the teacher Just to ma e t e teacher hop By th1s t1me our class had d1m1n1shed to twelve members Florence McCarthy marr1ed R1chard Tenney Jenny Ayers and Greta James left us to go to work and Barbara Hutchmson moved to Syracuse To lead us th1s year we elected Dan Hurley Pres1dent Reuben James V1ce Pres1dent Sally Sharrock Secretary Margaret Campbell Treasurer Mary Perkms and Reg1nald Stowe Student Councll members Mrs Hawley was our class adv1sor Our successful act1v1t1es were the sale of magazme subscrlptlons to New York After th1s exc1t1ng trzp we came back to face the dec1d1ng fac tor 1D our h1 h school career regents So ende the best years of our l1ves remmmscent of odorous furnes reek 1ng from the laboratory lat1n verbs we tr1ed so hard to conjugate and the methods of th1nk1ng and reasomng Mr Freeman tr1ed so hard to teach us CLASS PROPHECY NON CENTS IN THE FUTURE Well Here I am b ck ln the Colton Pxerrepont Central School after twenty years of hghts fun and muslc but let me tell you the cxrcumstances whxch led me here It all started two days H80 wh1le rest1ng mn the hxp pocket of some bxg shot strutt1ng down Broadway I was hummmg to myself when I heard some one call Non Cents That's what my fellow co1ns call me because I m always Jokmg Well as I was say1n It was Nick the N1ck1e pag1ng me to tell me the latest d1rt from the Blg gllty He asked me 1fI knew the owner of the pocket 1n wh1ch I was rxdmg What a shock when I learned It was that of Dan Hurley the DAN HURLEY Imag1ne me 1n the wallet of the greatest trumpet player mn the mus1c world The shock .
