Basketball This Year the Colton High Five had a fairly successful season. Colton won its way into both inter- league and sectional championship play-offs, but lost both by close margins. Colton lost to Norfolk in the interleague tournament 34 to 37 and lost to Rensselaer Falls in the sectional play by a score of 33 to 35. Four members of this year’s first string will be back for next year so prospects look bright for a victorious 1945-46 season. Baseball Due to very rainy weather this spring many of the baseball games had to be postponed. This year a league was organized very much like the one in basketball. Interleague Tournaments and Sectional Championships were scheduled. Due to wet grounds practice sessions were short and infre- quent. Members of the team were Jim Corcoran, catcher; Bob Thomas and Francis Woodard, pitchers; George Swift, 1st base; Shorty Olmsted, 2nd base; Paul Mitt, shortstop; Don Austin, 3rd base; Fred McEwen, left field; Kenny Perkins, center field; Humphrey Fallon, right field; while Neil Swift, Dale Robar, Clyde Severance, Allen Thomas rounded out the squad. Gormand Ford, regular 3rd baseman, had to quit the squad because of sickness. This year the girls of the school inaugurated girls’ softball. Games were few and far between, but the Freshmen-Sophomore and Junior-Senior teams created an abundance of diversion for the girls of the school while waiting for buses. Because this activity was outside the scope of the school no games were played with outside teams.
