Victor Cornelison fm, resefzfzkzg -Q3 the S EERE T :fy 19 6 Sftyhkze In THIS package marked Top Secret contains a 1956 Skyline which Editor Barbie Burns places on the top of the heap. The editors hope that you will feel that the book is tops too. Barbie wrapped this copy with plenty of paper and ribbon so that even Photographer Harry Smith wouldn't get a chance to see the 1956 Skyline before publication time. This deep secrecy surrounding the Skyline has come to be a tradition at Colorado Woman's College. T0 ALL WHO READ THIS BOOK: The first question that many of you will ask when you receive your 1956 Skyline is, nWhat is the theme?n The editors this year decided to experiment in annual production and dispense with the time-worn idea that every annual must have a theme. We have not used a theme except to portray life during the school year of a CWC-ed. The popularity of memory songs this year made the staff realize that memories play an important part in our life after college days, so we set aside the first section of the 1956 Skyline for our nMoments to Remember.n Barbie Bradshaw, poet laureate of the freshman journalists, adapted the words of a popular song to set the mood for the following pages printed in rotogravure. ' Throughout the book we have included pictures of men, since they are an important part of college life. The editors held a contest to pick a King of the Campus to add a touch of masculinity to the Royalty section. We sent the pictures of the king contestants to New York with President Val H. Wilson where Sharon Ritchie chose the winner and his runners-up, who are found in the royalty section of the 1956 Skyline. I would like to thank all the faculty and students for their co-operation, Mr. Paul Abdoo of Paul's Studio and Mr. Harry Smith for the photographs used in the book, I the staff of Monitor Publications, Miss Jo Carter and last, but certainly not least -- Mr. C. We have added many new features this year, including the new designs for the class section and the rotogravure printing of the Moments to Remember and Royalty sections. So here is your 1956 Skyline -- filled with moments to remember, because -This Is cwc. . ? U 1 I is 1. ,I I, .,. 21 1' -Q , , Tj-54: W J!,,i.ir,,, 1 1 x - .I .. What an important date for the class of 1956, for it was then that we arrived on the CWC campus to begin two of the most eventful years of our lives. We had little time to become homesick, for we soon learned that college is a flurry and whirl of activities. Our first semester at CWC was full of so many things to remember-Gypsy Iamboree, the Rose Formal Dinner, Parent's Weekend, and The Hanging of the Christmas Greens. lt was during this semester that we elected our class officers. When the results were announced, we learned that the class of 1956 had chosen Sharon Ritchie, president, Danna Sue Orr, vice- president, Sue Barnard, secretary, and Kay Sellers, treasurer. After Christmas vacation the rest of the year seemed to fly by. Final exams and second semester registration kept us busy in january. The Melting Pot Banquet, Founders' Day, and campaign week were just a few of the activi- ties we enjoyed during the last few months. Already we were looking forward to the time when we would become Seniors, for we had chosen Maritza Tagaropulos, Lee Bruns, lean Ellis, and Mary Lou Adams to represent us for the following year. It seemed as if it were just a few short days from the time we had packed our suitcases for summer vacation, until we were again unpack- ing them and getting ready for the Leadership Conference at Foss Park. Being members of the Senior class brought new joys and new responsibilities. We were just welcoming our little sisters to the dorms when television, radio and the newspapers brought the thrilling word that Sharon Ritchie, our classmate and president of our Freshman class, had been crowned Miss America for 1956 at Atlantic City. This was a high note on which to start our Senior year and the pace did not slacken as we moved from one thrilling event to another. Sharon's homecoming in October was a day to remember. There were football games, dances at neighboring colleges and the Academy, and the unforgettable presentation of The Hanging of the Christmas Greens with new music brought from Europe by Mrs. Anton Landler. Christmas holidays over, we came back to study for finals and attend the Denver Club Prom where Pat Chadwick reigned as queen. Ski days were fun and we all thrilled at such events as the Valentine Prom, The Melting Pot Banquet, Founders' Day, and the cornerstone ceremony for Curtis Hall. With spring's arrival the days until gradua- tion grew few and we realized with emotion that soon we would leave Colorado Woman's College. But there were still many things to enjoy including the Twilight Sing, Water Pageant, Cotton Carnival, Student Elections, May Prom, Honors Convocation, and Com- mencement Week. And now it is time for graduation, and as we step up to receive our diplomas from Presi- dent Val H. Wilson, we will know that the class of 1956 has had some very wonderful moments to remember. ...f......4 J Mary Lou Adams I mperial, Nebraska Business SCA: TRI CHIg SENIOR CLASS, TREASURER Pat Adelsohn Denver, Colorado Art Education DENVER CLUB, PUBLICITY CHAIRMAN: PALETTEERS Ann Ascherl St. Augustine, Florida Airline S tewardess PI ALPHA MU: SCI-kg TRI CHI Irma Azadkanfian San Francisco, California Art BROWSERS, PRESIDENTp SCRIBBLERS 9 Q ff w 1 w I L 4 ,,.,,..g:Ti .51 eizzors Page 35 C.: ry-1:--. uma .-, ., .- ,.,.-. 5. No kiddin', after you work on a project like editing the Skyline for a whole year, you get pretty well tied up in it. And then after it's all done, all at once you get that terrible feeling that maybe you should have done this differently and changed this and left that out and put this in. And pretty soon you find yourself all packed up and out on the corner thumbing a ride. Sue still has strength enough to wave her thumb, but Marj and Barbie just sit and wait. But we unpacked and we'll be around when publication day arrives. If there is any- thing about the book you like, we'd love to hear it: if not, Mr. C. will be delighted to hear your complaints down in the Pub Room. Bye, everyone! ink 0 y .www QNXQJSO .
