CHARLES A. LORY President of Colorado State College Dr. Lory, President of Colorado State College, spent his early boyhood in Ohio. When he was six his family moved to West Virginia, where his father operated a saw mill. Moving to Colorado at the age of 15, he passed the state teacher ' s examination and taught in a rural school near Loveland. Not liking to teach, he worked at ditch riding and farming and later entered Greeley Teach- ers College, at the age of 22, and made his way through college by serving as ditch rider during the summer. Ambitious to become an engineer, he went to the University of Colorado, where he received his M.A. degree in 1 902. Later he became principal of the high school at Cripple Creek, and two years later he was acting professor of physics at the University of Colorado. In 1905 he came to Colorado Aggies to take charge of the physics de ' partment. Elected President of the college in 1909, he has seen the enrollment grow from 113 college students to 1,800. He likes his college work and finds it so diversified that all his interests are centered there. [10]
