The Tigers racked up an impressive record in season play, and went on to the NCAA round one playoffs in Divi- sion 3. The playoff game was an interesting blend of two styles of football, pitting the single wing offense, and the run oriented game that C.C. plays against the traditional passing game of the southern school. Millsaps College, the Tiger ' s rival in the playoff game, relied heavily on the arm of their quarterback, Ricky Haygood, who led the Majors to a close 28-21 victory over the Tigers. It was perhaps the finest foot- ball game that Washburn field has seen in many years. In regular season play, CC fans watched the Tigers roll over op- ponents by very large scores, destroying nearly every team they played on their home field. It was a very impressive season, with fine performances from seniors Mark Buchanan, Frank Buchanan, Tom Benson, Mark Preuss, Rich McDermott, Mike Hubbard, Terry Johnson, Tony Euser, Mark Huvard, Steve Brown. The team will miss these players next year, but Coaches Carle, DeGeorge, Eastlack, Lear, Baker, and Haley are looking forward to another good season. Mike Adams, professional B-circuit racer and Salomon Test Team member, coached the triumphant Tigers. Leading the Tigers was Fred ' Wonder ' Weiner who captured both the CIAL Men ' s Slalom and Giant Slalom first place award, with Steve ' Cruncher ' Simasko right behind. Co-captains Steve ' Oral ' Roberts and Chuck ' Chocolate ' Watts added strength to the dynamic team. The women skiers again raced successfully with Jan ' watch out for that tree ' Rosenfeld as the leader. All may not enjoy the game, but in some way, all are touched by it. For the past four years, Eddie Mio has been an outstanding asset to the CC hockey team, and one of the best college goalies in the nation. This page is dedicated to Eddie Mio, as a very small token of our thanks for the superb job that he has done for the past four years, with wishes for the very best in his career, and the years to come. Thanks Eddie! Thanks also to the other graduating seniors, Walt Bush, Ed Jenkins, and Lynn Olson, for their ef- forts, and sacrifice, so that the CC hockey team might become what it has been for the past several years, with two of the best seasons that CC has had for over a decade. In a day when all students were clerics, the gown and its attached hood served both to keep the student warm in unheated buildings and to identify the particular religious order to which he belonged. American academic costume of today is based upon an inter-collegiate code established in 1895. The gown is generally of black, differing somewhat according to the level of the degree. Some universities have brightly colored gowns although many faculty members prefer to wear the more conventional black. The tassel on the mortar board cap may be of black or of the color indicating the degree, except that a doctor ' s cap occasionally has a tassel of gold thread. The major distinguishing characteristic of the gowns are the sleeves, styled in the following fashion: bachelor, long pointed; master, oblong; doctor and specialist, bell shaped. The doctor ' s gown has velvet collar, and three bars. The specialist ' s gown differs from a doctor ' s in that it has no sleeve bars. The hood is the outstanding feature of the costume. Of black material, it is lined with the colors of the college or university granting the degree and is bordered with the color appropriate to that degree. The degree, and not the department or field, governs the color of the border. Thus the border of a doctor of philosophy hood is always blue for philosophy, regardless of the field of study. The Colorado College hood is lined with gold. Among institutional colors which may be seen at today ' s exercises are the following; California, gold, blue chevron; Chicago, maroon; University of Colorado, gold, silver gray chevron; Columbia, light blue, white chevron; Harvard, crimson; Illinois, dark blue, two orange chevrons; Indiana, crimson, white chevron; Johns Hopkins, dark blue, gold chevron; Michigan, mai e, a ure blue chevron; MIT, bright red. silver gray chevron; Northwestern, purple, gold chevron; Pennsylvania, cardinal, blue chevron; Princeton, orange, black chevron; Stanford, cardinal; Wisconsin, bright red; Yale, dark blue. Bansen Company Advisor and the person who really made this whole damn book a reality: John Fotenos Editor ' s Comments Well, it ' s all over, I think. The book you are holding, and hopefully will cherish along with your memories of Colorado College, is less a product of pride than despera- tion. The ordeal of putting it together has spanned a full year, although it really reached a feverish peak about two months ago. I can say very little about this book, other than it has no theme, and it is done. At times I had fun with it, at others I despaired of ever seeing it in print, but here it is, at long last, something to hold on to, and look at from time to time. In this book are people, buildings, and good times which you may remember many years from now. If you don ' t think much of the book now, put it away and come back to it in a few years, it may mean something to you then. There are people I owe a lot for all the help that was given to me in the making of this book, and there are people who I never want to see again. John Fotenos is the advisor that Walsworth Publishing Company sent to us, but he became much more than that. John is responsible for most of the layout of this book, he and his wife Chrys worked hours as long as I did this summer to finish the book, and he deserves more credit than I for it. Miffy Maffei and Hal Howard really helped a lot in the photographic department, covering the senior activities. Jan Kensinger did a fabulous job with advertising, even though she tended to exagerate the amount of money she had made for us from time to time. Thanks to Jay Hartwell and David Hendrickson for providing comic relief during long nights in the darkroom. Special thanks to the CCCA for providing enough money to make this book a reality. In the Thanks but no thanks department, continued from last year, are all of the seniors who complained about the lack of senior pictures last year, but wouldn ' t take the time to have their picture taken this year. Well, that ' s about it for this year. I hope you like this book, we put a lot of time and effort into it, that it might reflect the kind of place CC is, and the kind of people that work and learn here. Thanks for giving me a chance to be part of it, I will miss it. Peter A. Bansen August 18, 1976 WALSWORTH Marceline, Mo., U.S.A. l: V?0 YOU HAVE TOLKEIW ' g £lti£ TRILOGY g HASN COME IW V£T.
