ECONOMICS In the economics department Dr. Curran was foreign manager of the Americo-Persian Develop- ment and Trading Corporation from 1926-30. Dr. Curran, Mr. Werner, and Mr. Bechtol. EDUCATION Dr. Collins of the education department was the Educational and Counseling Consultant for the In- stitute Tec. de Aeronautica in Brazil from 1952-55. Dr. Collins, Mr. Jordan, deceased, Miss Saunders, Miss Eaton ENGINEERING The engineering department offers its majors a 3-2 plan by which they can attend CC for three years and follow a liberal arts course. They then go on to Columbia University, Illinois University, or Rensular Polytechnic Institute for two years of intensive study in engineering. CHEMISTRY CC ' s chemistry department is fully accredited by the American Chemical Society, and has a group of student affiliates with the society. In the department itself, two members, Dr. Barnes and Dr. Michels, are reviewed in the book Ameri- can Men of Science. Last summer two other mem- bers of the department, Dr. Champion and Dr. Michels, attended conferences sponsored by the National Science Foundation. DRAMA Mr. McMillen of the drama department, pro- duces two all school plays annually. He spent six years doing professional stage and radio work be- fore coming to CC. Mr. MacMillen DANCE Mr. and Mrs. Norman Cornick, professors of dance, have both danced professionally. ENGLISH Miss Amanda Ellis of the English department is now a writer in residence at CC. She has had a number of books published, as have other mem- bers of the department. In the fall of I960 she had a play produced on TV, and will soon have another shown. Mr. Racey and Mr. Van Becker are new members of the department. Dr. Racey, Mr. Ormes, Dr. Knapp, Dr. Ross, Mr. McCue, Mrs. Hershey, Mr.. Krutzke, and Mrs. Monroe. In the French department, Dr. Boyce has done a rather reverse teaching stint. Instead of the teaching of French to Americans, he taught Eng- lish to Parisians in 1956-57. Mr. Miller, Mr. Von Puttkamer, Mrs. Secrist, Dr. Boyce, and Mr. Madruga. GEOLOGY Renovation of many of the geology classrooms brought better eguipment to the students. A con- vention of the National Geographical Society of America, which 4,000 geologists attended, was held in Denver in the fall. Advanced geology stu- dents were invited to attend. Mr. Lewis, Mr. Osborne, visiting lecturer, Dr. Pearl Fischer, and Dr. Grose. Dr.
