BOTANY Dr. Penland, botany professor, is planning with great care the new area he will have in the new science building. In the fall of 1962 he will move into a department five times larger than the pres- ent one, and which will include a spacious green- h ouse. ART Members of the art department have had wide varieties of art experiences. Miss Chenoweth ' s pictures have been exhibited in major cities from coast to coast, while Mr. Darriau was the recipient of a Fulbright Grant for Sculpture in Florence, Italy. Mr. Arnest was the Chief War Artist of the historical section of the European theater of the U.S. Army from 1943-45. Mr. Darriau, Mr. Arnest, Miss Chenoweth, Mr. Eager. BUSINESS The bus iness department is extending the amount of independent work done by c enior majors. Six hours of departmental work will be done without a scheduled class. Majors will be more responsible for their own education by doing reading, writing of papers, and solving problems. Mr. Barton, Mr. Jones, and Mr. Johnson.

■,j •--■ ' ..■ Mr. Hitchcock, Dr. Snyder, Dr. Champion, Dr. Barnes, and Dr. Michels. CHEMISTRY CC ' s chemistry department is fully accredited by the American Chemical Society, and has a group of student affiliates with the society. In the department itself, two members, Dr. Barnes and Dr. Michels, are reviewed in the book Ameri- can Men of Science. Last summer two other mem- bers of the department, Dr. Champion and Dr. Michels, attended conferences sponsored by the National Science Foundation. DRAMA Mr. McMillen of the drama department, pro- duces two all school plays annually. He spent six years doing professional stage and radio work be- fore coming to CC. Mr. MacMillen DANCE Mr. and Mrs. Norman Cornick, professors of dance, have both danced professionally. Mr. Cor- nick was with a group in Los Angeles which went on tour, while Mrs. Cornick has danced on Broad- way. Mr. and Mrs. Cornick, Mrs. Gray
