3tt ifemnnam MarcELLUS H. Chiles made one of the finest records of the war. He is a model for heroes to follow. He enlisted soon after war was declared and his promotions were rapid. On November 5, 1918, he died from wounds received in a charge against the Germans, in which he displayed such bravery and gallantry that he was awarded, posthumously, the Distinguished Medal Cross by General Pershing, and the Congressional Medal— the highest service honor which any soldier may receive. 12
