I 1 I % I I % $ $ ii ; ' $ $ l i Most of the students in our school regard Mr. .Bickell, principal here since- 1958 when the school first opened, with great awe and respect. However, not many think of him in any other oapacity, so, we thought that it would be only fitting to pay tribute to him in this 1962-63 edition of Maroon and Gold. Mr. Bickell was enrolled in public school in Red Deer, but completed his high school training at Central here in Calgary. He studied for his B.A. degree at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. After completing his courses there, Mr. Bickell went to Southern California where he reoeived his Master Degree in Scienoe and Education. Mr. Bickell has a commendable war record. He met disappointment in not being allowed to go overseas because the military staff valued his educational background and teaching ability in training new recruits. When the war ended Mr. Bickell had obtained the rank of major. Our principal has had a long teaching career. He began teaching when he was eighteen and has now been teaching forty years as of June 3rd. He has been a principal in Calgary since one year after the war and has been principal here at Colonel Irvine for six years. Besides his teaching career, Mr. Bickell, who has been married thirty-two years, has: raised a son David and a daughter, Bonnie. He- also conducted in-service-training for Public School Board teachers for three years, in the use of Audio-Visual Aids. The staff and students of Colonel Irvine would like to congratulate Mr. Bickell on his forty successful years of teaching and wish him many I % % W more in the future,
