THE ANCIENT RIME OF THE SCHOOLBOY - by Gaye Shaw 9-14 (After the Rime of the Ancient Mariner) It is an ancient teacher And he did stoopeth me By thy long grey hair and bloodshot eye, Nov wherefore stopp ' st thou me?” The principal ' s doors have opened wide Though I ' m not next of kin; The pupils met, the strap is set; May ' st hear the merry din? He held me with his skinny hand, There was a boy, quoth he Hold offl Unhand me, grey-haired loonl Eftsoons the strap dropt he. He missed me with that awful strap — So I stood very still, I had to listen like a child; For he had a forceful will. And I had done an awful thing, And it did work me woe; For I had stopped with bubble-gum. The fan that caused the breeze to blow, THE BY ' AYMAN by Alonna Thrall 8-9 (After The Highwayman) The breeze was a cascade of brightness among the dewy trees, The moon was a white washed clipper-ship tossed upon foggy seas. The road war of asphalt, all sticky, over the phairie out west. And the,bywayman oame trudging - trudging - trudging, The bywayman came trudging and then he stopped for a rest. ’Up the old asphalted driveway he tiptoed and stalked in the dark, He was startled, and hid in the bushes when he heard the song of a lark. He walked then, on to the doorway, and who should be waiting there But the owner ' s white fanged watchdog, Butch, the owner ' s watchdog. Growling a low mean mad growl, like a lion in his lair. And dark in the dark old driveway, a convertable oar door squeeked, Where Beth, the millionaire ' s daughter came, late, for her gas tank had a lea She saw the tramp at the doorway, he stood, being held at bay, She knew he hated the watchdog, Her father ' s long-fanged watchdog. Quiet as a mouse she listened and she heard the hobo say: Good griefS Oh goshl Dear met the dog is at the door. And if I don ' t leave right quickly now he ' ll have bitten me by the score. : And so he turned right quickly -then and ran towards the day. He ran to the east by the moonlight. His shadow ran in the moonlight, He ran on and on in the- moonlight, and was ne ' r seen again - so they sayl

What are teachers really like? Most kids think it’s true That teachers are as mean at home As when they are with you. But I don ' t think they are so bad. Just ' cause they yell at us They probably act quite nice at home. And never make a fuss When you are talking to a friend ’Bout how a movie was; Your science teacher throws a look; You wonder why he does. When you have a page of math. And you ' re drawing on your text. The teacher gives you fifty lines. You wonder why she’s vexed.
