THE ANCIENT RIME OF THE SCHOOLBOY - by Gaye Shaw 9-14 (After the Rime of the Ancient Mariner) It is an ancient teacher And he did stoopeth me By thy long grey hair and bloodshot eye, Nov wherefore stopp ' st thou me?” The principal ' s doors have opened wide Though I ' m not next of kin; The pupils met, the strap is set; May ' st hear the merry din? He held me with his skinny hand, There was a boy, quoth he Hold offl Unhand me, grey-haired loonl Eftsoons the strap dropt he. He missed me with that awful strap — So I stood very still, I had to listen like a child; For he had a forceful will. The fan that caused the breeze to blow, THE BY ' AYMAN by Alonna Thrall 8-9 (After The Highwayman) The breeze was a cascade of brightness among the dewy trees, The moon was a white washed clipper-ship tossed upon foggy seas. The road war of asphalt, all sticky, over the phairie out west. And the, bywayman oame trudging - trudging - trudging, The bywayman came trudging and then he stopped for a rest. ’Up the old asphalted driveway he tiptoed and stalked in the dark, He was startled, and hid in the bushes when he heard the song of a lark. He walked then, on to the doorway, and who should be waiting there But the owner ' s white fanged watchdog, Butch, the owner ' s watchdog. Growling a low mean mad growl, like a lion in his lair. And dark in the dark old driveway, a convertable oar door squeeked, Where Beth, the millionaire ' s daughter came, late, for her gas tank had a lea She saw the tramp at the doorway, he stood, being held at bay, She knew he hated the watchdog, Her father ' s long-fanged watchdog. Quiet as a mouse she listened and she heard the hobo say: Good griefS Oh goshl Dear met the dog is at the door. And if I don ' t leave right quickly now he ' ll have bitten me by the score. : And so he turned right quickly -then and ran towards the day. He ran to the east by the moonlight. His shadow ran in the moonlight, He ran on and on in the- moonlight, and was ne ' r seen again - so they sayl

SCHOOL DAZE As we were walking down the block. We stopped awhile just to talk,. Lilly spoke of her frozen toes, While Heidi spoke of glamourous clothes, Wendy spoke of cokes and movie stars And Janis spoke of 63 cars. Then suddenly the sohool bell rang. Throughout the neighborhood echoed the olang, clang, clang, They made a dash l They were gone in a flash! Trying to beat the second bell But even the littlest child could tell Although it’s mean to say I think that they ' ll be late today! Janis Dyck OUR HOMELAND THE SETTING SUN Alberta is our homeland Our homeland great and free, Alberta is ' our homeland For all, for you, for me. That is the time that I like best. With the gold of the sun mingling with the dusk It gives the sky a beautiful lust. By the pink and the orange and the purple and gold A wonderful tale of the Heavens is told It gives you a thrill just to sit and see The sun go down as it will. always be. It gives you a feeling of being small Watching the smoldering of this gigantic .ball, I doubt if the death of the sun will be seen It will probably go on as it always has been Donna Bell Alberta is our homeland. Where cattle furnish meat. Alberta is our homeland ' With its farms nice and neat. Alberta is our homeland, Tq passers by we tell, Alberta ' is our homeland So may we lcve her well. Susan Kerr
