CHEER LEADERS During the past year the cheerleaders under the leadership of Gail Potter were very aotive, with Uisa Lyane teacher sponsor. The first fund raising venture was a Slave Sale which was quite a success. In the latter part of February a Candy Sale was held. The sum of eight dollars was raised towards -the new oheerleading costumes. To help raise more funds for the costumes the cheerleaders helped organise the Spring Conoert and served as usherettes, ticket takers and messengers. FRENCH CLUB The French olub this year devoted its meetings to learning something about the French people, their language and their life. At the beginning of the year the club lead an interesting book about Montreal. 1 After this they examined many exoiting travel folders that gave a clearer picture of the people and the country. The members then learned the numbers up to one hundred so they could play Bingo in French. Mrs. Hendel, teacher sponsor, showed two interesting films as well. The French olub had a very successful and rewarding year. WOODWORKING CLUB The woodworking olub was organized this year to help Mr. Koper build different items for the school. The olub consisted of 16 members. Altogether picture frames, bookshelves, a suggestion box, niabers for the parking lot, a record bar, meter racks and drawers for 399 film strips were completed. NEWSPAPER CLUB The newspaper club has had a successful bi-monthly paper put out containing interesting events around the school -this year. We would like to thank the student body for making this possible. A candy sale was held in February which went over very well. This sale was held in conjunction with the cheerleaders. Approximately $14.80 was brought in. The olub also sponsored a successful Sock Hop in Maroh to celebrate St. Patrick ' s Day. Miss Johanson was teacher sponsor, Marjorie Murray was editor in chief and Diok Go11 was the president. GIRLS JUNIOR LEADERS The Junior Leaders of Colonel Irvine started 1959-60 with twenty-seven girls. This active organization refereed houseleague volleyball, basketball, bordenball and floor hookey. During the year -the girls provided entertainment for the Maroh assembly with Hoola Hoop rhythmics and fdk-dancing. The girls also displayed their talents with the Hoola Hoops at the Balmoral Musioal Demonstration and on T.V. May 1st, The Junior Leaders also sponsored a Photo Contest in April. If the number of cameras observed arodnd the school was any indication of the popularity of this contest; it was a huge suooess. Mrs. Grose was teacher sponsor.

WRESTLING CLUB The wnestling club was organised to teach the boys the skills of Amateur Wrestling. They followed the Olympic Rules as set by International Competition. Under Ur. MoDougall and Ur. Stan Black the club met Wednesday and Friday. The boys went through a vigorous workout every meeting and learned the skills of various holds in fighting. The boys faced three competitions this year. The interscholastio meet, the Calgary and District Amateur Wrestling Championships and the Provincial Amateur Championships. Results of the 1960 Calgary and District Amateur Wrestling Championships for Colonel Irvine competitors was: Manley Fredlund Winner Junior B Class 136j lbs. Dale Ruhl Winner Junior B Class 108 lbs. Douglas Howes Winner Junior B Class 96 lbs. Daan Eggenberger Winner Junior B Class 114 lbs. Bob Bissillion Runner Up Junior B Class 96 lbs. Stewart Willner Runner Up Junior B Class 108 lbs. Others winning one out of three events were Brian White, Gary Cameron and Bob Watt. Inter-school meets also formed a part of the program. There were twenty-two club members. The club also performed very successfully for a school assembly. TOMBLING CLUB The tumbling club, consisting of 30 members, met Tuesday and Thursdays. The boys began their tumbling lessons with log rolls. Later, some had successfully completed many complicated stunts on various apparatus. Mr. McDougall was very happy when he saw the boys perform an effective gym display for the Spring Concert which was held in March. Tumbling is fun and boys who learn the fundamentals can progress very rapidly. GIRLS GLEE CLUB The glee club was held for girls who enjoy singing. At the Christmas program and Spring Concert the girls, who this year numbered 30, took part. More difficult work could have been undertaken if the girls in grades eight and nine had continued to attend. The music performed has been of good quality and the experience has been both enjoyable and valuable to the girls, llr. Jordan leads the group. Y-TEEN The year 1959-60 saw the establishment of a Y-Teen Club for the girls in Colonel Irvine. The club had 30 members all of which were proud to belong. The year ' s activities for the club consisted of a variety of projects. Two candy sales were held - one in November for the Junior High and another in Maroh for the Elementary. Both were successful. During some of the regular meetings speakers from the Y.W.C.A. were invited. They talked on various subjects such as the history of the Y.W.C.A. and crafts. These topios, the girls found, were interesting and informative. The club also made several trips to the Y. One of the trips, which was the most enjoyed, was the Hanging of the Green the week before Christmas. This is the time when all the Y-Teen girls help to decorate the Y for Christmas. The last project of the year was an Easter Tea which was held on April 11 in the school auditorium. Mothers, teachers and friends were invited to attend the tea The tea was a olub project to which all Y-Teen members contributed. The executive for the year was Karlene Rothwell - president, Judy Bowerman - secretary Mary Aim Davis - treasurer, and Miss Schawalder was the teacher sponsor. SERENAS BEAUTY PARLOR 5614 - 4 St. N.W.
