Hungry Jack Peyton Roberts Hungry Jack was soon to be the world's super- hero. Follow this story and find out how he gained fame and fortune and lost it, then returned to the ways of a small town. Hungry Jack was born in the northern part of the country in a no-name town. When he was born, his crib was a piano case. It wasn't that he was too large, it was that he weighted too much. When he was a tot between the ages of one and two, he would always eat biscuits. His mother and the neighbors would make nicknames for Hungry, such as plump chump and piece of pie '. Hungry Jack grew tired of this kind of teasing, and decided to try to cut down the number of biscuits he ate each day. He replaced his eating habit with another bad habit - sucking his thumb. This soon became his favorite pastime. He would sit for hours,'just sucking his thumb and day dreaming of how one day he would be famous. Hungry was growing very quickly, soon he grew very tall, and had the strength of ten bulldozers. He was as fast as a train. Hungry would wait 'till 5:00 each evening when the train came, and race it to town. One day Hungry got carried away with himself, and raced the train clear to the big city which was 500 miles away. In the city Hungry found his strength gave him an advantage over everyone. He became a good law-abiding citizen, and used his strength only when he was angry. Hungry became good friends with the entire police force. fthe chief and two deputiesl One day the chief offered him a job. It was as the guard of the one bank in that town. The first night of his assignment, he had taken position inside the bank, when shortly he heard a sound coming from the rear of the bank. He went to see what it was. Hungry found two men climbing through a rear window, he yelled '6Halt . When they did not, he chased the would-be robbers until he caught them, which only took a few seconds. Hungry asked them what they were doing, when they didn't answer Hungry became furious and violent, he grab- bed their arms and tied them in knots. Then Hungry called the police on his Walkie-talkie. The police cap- tain was very happy to catch these men for they were being hunted in connection with another bank rob- bery in the next town. When he asked Hungry what he would like to have as a reward, Hungry replied BISCUITS . The captain sent for a half dozen biscuits. When the order arrived he gave them to Hungry. In an instant the biscuits were gone bag and all. The captain ordered biscuits again and again for Hungry 'cause Hungry was still HUNGRY . The captain was so angry with Hungry, he tired him. Hungry didn't care, he was' too busy eating. Hungry was returned to the no-name town and to this day Hungry is still hungry. Hungry is on a commercial now and then, watch for him, you can't miss him! The Kitten Janet Cohen The innocent kitten all rolled in a mitten The rolled up kitten, curled in a mitten. Watching life go by Poor weak and shy, Leaps for the butterfly and misses then showers you with love and kisses When she comes in from the rain When she comes in flushed with pain her skin is torn and blood stains on her fluffy white skin unprotected by danger hurt badly by a stranger. Now she is dead Tears in their eyes everyone cries A poor harmless kitten has been badly stricken. School Nancy Goldstein Rushing around from class to class, Teachers yelling, Where's your hall pass?! Crowded rooms and slamming doors, When the teacher lectures, almost everyone snores! Despite all the homework, detentions and tests, It's been a fun year, one of the best. If I had a choice, the western gunslinge that I The Legend of Jake Wilson Brian Orloff There once was a man named Jake Wilson. He was a very lonely man, so he decided that he would look for a wife. Jake was a rugged human being, standing seven feet tall and weighting five hundred fifty pounds. He had decided to go to New York City to find a wife. When he arrived in New York City, he immediately roamed the streets. To show off in front of the ladies, he picked up two cars with his little finger. He finally met a woman who was twice as big as he was and also weighted twice as much as he did. Her name was Hilda. She told Jake that if he could lift more than she could, she would marry him, but if she lifted more, Jake would have to be her servant. Jake quickly agreed and tried to think of something they could lift. They started out. at Macy's Depart- ment Store. They had no trouble lifting it. They had lifted everything in New York City before a police- man saw them. He arrested them for vandalizing property. After they were caught, they spent several months in jail. They had a lot of time to think things over, and when they got out of jail, they decided they were meant for each other, and then they got married. Bunny knows where the boolds are, but can he get them to the Mayor in an hour. Re- alizing he must change into Super Librarian Aid, Bunny leaps into the Date Due card box and Boom! Bang! Pow! it's Super Librarian Aid. He flies to York to get one copy. Back across the count? to California for the second COPY, and finally to New ash- ington, D.C. for the third. ' intra 'I The Folkhero I Am Most Like Elayne Kriss It may be presumptuous of me, but I like to think that Daniel Boone and I have at least a few traits in common. Like Boone, I hate bloodshed and violence but, if neessary, I will stand up and iight for what I believe in. I share with Daniel Boone a love of the outdoor life and the beauties of nature. I think Ihave in me the same restless yearning and spirit of adven- ture which prompted Daniel Boone to seek new ter- ritories to explore. I, too, sometimes feel hemmed in and have a desire to escape to free, more open places. Though the days of the frontier are over, I like to think that Daniel Boone's pioneer spirit lives on in me.
