No Title Erica Greenberg it's one of those timeless places, where very day seems a Friday, in a world of Mondays. a month of Sundays, when the rent's due on the first. drifting off into nowhere, looking for never-never land. slowly heading for the gnashing rocks, ready to grind any being into oblivion. fog settles on the field and envelops my body, lava flows out of the cracks in the ground, filling the imperfections in my brain. my soul lifts away from the frostbitten fingers. the deadened newes the music and the words are a single being, and yet separate unions joined by a single action. a song they are not, for they require tending Peter Pan comes and finds' me, far off in nowhere. the fog lifts and Tinkerbell brings the rocks closer to me. our union is broken by a single action. The Fish Diane Feifarek The fish swiggles and swims around the tanks He explores the little ship that sank. It swims in and out of colored shells, He feels like he's in the jail's cells. His feeding time is almost here. He swims through the tanks without any fear He breathes by gills, swims by fins And doesn't ever worry about his sins. The fish is colorful and cute, He wears the prettiest little birthday suit. His eyes they glow against the light, The water temperature is just right. The pump bubbles out air The filter cleans the tank with care The coral's for the fish to hide, The current's for the fish to ride. 1 X A lig IM!! It's filled with hundreds of mysteries, Like the hundreds of drops in sea spray The first thing you observe, When you come to the shore Is the seas an' the sands' wet horiz'n. Then in frozen delight, you gaze toward the sky, And see snowy white sea gulls a flyin'! If you sit for a while, on a rock by the sea, You'1l hear all the tones of the waves. Sometimes they come crashing with thunderous roars, While they dig all the poor fishes' graves. Poems by Margo Berg Teachers Teachers are funny Sometimes sweet as honey Teachers never make mistakes and never give us any breaks. Golden were those days of yore, And that is what the fire bore. The wood once firm is now but dust. The coals below have turned to rust. Oh, how those days of yore do shine, Brighter and brighter with passing of time. I Erica Greenberg Yesterday it was supposed to rain, the weatherman had ordered it and like the fool I am, I didn't expect it. everything came crashing in down around me, f and the rains started and it turned to hail and left little red marks wherever the pellets hit my body. And I, like the fool I am, stood out in the freezing cold rain and let the drops absorb into my brain, and embraced the rain, tried to catch the very element that was succeeding in destroying my senses, and leaving in me nothing but a void, and I, like the fool I am, staunchly refused to acknowledge the seemingly obvious fact of my ruinization. 44 Speedy Joe J Speedy Joe was small, about 5'1l , and oey Hins they said that he was a kinda blacky with a little yella in 'im . But then, he was black but I don't know about the yellow. He played football like you've never seen. He was so fast that the quarterback would call the signals and Speedy would get the ball from the center before the quarterback could touch it. When Joe was born he had two older brothers who were in junior high school. The oldest, Anthony Brown, was a great basketball player who later went to U.C.L.A. Paul Brown, Anthony's younger brother was a great baseball player. He later went bn to lead the Oakland A's to the World Series. It seemed that Joe would have played football or become another Anthony or Paul. When Joe was four he gdt his first football. His father said, He would go out front, run over a coupla' trees, race a car up the street and flip the light switch in his room and hit the bjed before the switch clicked, to see if he still had it in 'im . When Joe was eight, he went out with his ad so he could teach him how to tackle, but instead ,oe ended up breaking his dad's leg. It seemed Joe alre dy knew how to tackle, he just didn't know he knfw. When Joe was sixteen, he played high school fooltball. His coach said, That little guy can do nothing wrong. He's great, you know, he's great! Spe Brownls name was known by every pro edy Joe scout in America and by just everybody in America.jHe made inter-scholastic superstar in high school and the school, to honor him, made a statue in his name. He got a scholarship to U.S.C. There he ran for tive thousand yards and won the Heisman Trophy four years straight. That's where he got thenami Speedy. Usually he ran around 'em but sometimes run over 'em, and thatls where practicing over trees came in handy. He was too sm e would running all to be named Tank, so they named him Speedy. He was drafted by Oakland and lived with his brother Paul. In the pro's, Joe would run a one. second hundred yard dash. Joe led the Oakland Raiders to ve super bowls and led them to the playoffs ten straig t times. It was said that Joe was running a kickoff back and was going too fast and propelled himself in mid air and was never seen again. My Mountain 1 Joanne Murphy My friend and I, we climed by mountain, And we did it with not a doubting. We almost got up to the top, until my friend began to drop, Here , I said, grab this map! We got her up safe and sound, Then we found we never left the ground!

School Anna Blitzstein School is something the county sends you to. School is somewhere where you learn a lot. School is somewhere where you have a mid-morning break. Budtifonly takes ten minutes everyday. School is somewhere you do compositions. School is somewhere where you hold a position. School is somewhere where work is hard. And I sent Mr. Wray a Hannukah card. Lee's Courgars are the best. They are better than the rest. When there is a fire atlSCh001, Some are scared and some are cool. Miss Balmer is tall but Mr. Nuzacci is small. School ties you up just like a shell. Ihave to go now cause there goes the bell. Eddie Lattner HAIKU Fireflies in the night A silent journey by light So small yet so bright. My Country Nicki Sideris Youthful child of Europe, Like an acorn turned to tree, The United States of America, All those things are we. Though not always so united And not always filled with glee, We're here because our ancestors Wanted to be free. Freedom from injustice And the chains of tyranny Were what our brave forefathers Did so wish to flee. Of what our country means, Very few can agree. Even I'm not very sure Of what my country means to me. When Ihear those patriotic speeches, I turn green like the sea. Yet without my blessed country, I know not where I would be. 46 Ben Roberts Kim Barr Way up north in Alaska around the early l900's, there lived a prospector who was looking for gold. His name was Ben Roberts. Every morning he went up to a nearby lake to get some breakfast. He'd just hook his axe under the edge of ice, give one or two tug and a whole cover of ice would come off in his harid Then Ben would reach into the lake, take out a lo of 'd fish, and replace the top. Ben was neat and he dr like to leave things lying around. Ss S. n't He'd cook the fish, then he would go out to look for gold. One time, on top of a hill, he discoverfld a whole bunch of gold. Some of the chucks were soj big that even Ben couldn't carry them. He decided to roll them down the mountain to his house at the bottom. He fetched the biggest one and heaved it out over the edge. But he heaved a little too hard cause the bould- er just sailed through the air never once touching the ground. Ben noted it was going south, so he raced down to the United States and sure enough, he saw that boulder commin' straight for him. Ben dodged it and it sank almost a mile into the ground and rolled a long way before it stopped. That's how we got Grand Canyon. I Another time, when Ben was out, he started t a chill, and wished that he had a nice fur jacketflvith the get him. Suddenly a polar bear jumped out and tried to eat Ben. Ben grabbed that polar bear by his shoulders and gave a hard yank. The bear's soft white skin came off in his hands. Ben wrapped it around himself and said, Sorry'b011'fthat Mr. Bear, and he chuckl ed. The bear just said, Ahh, forget it, it was too hot anyway. So Ben went home and went to bed. I Western Gunslinger 1 Michelle C hen If I could be a western gunslinger I would be Jesse James. Even though he deceived the law, he was also humorous, kind, and wise. Jesse James liked to help people, as he helped the widow by giving her money to pay her rent. Later he got the money back by robbing the rent collector. Wouldn't it be fun to help people and lose nothing? Jesse James apprecihted jokes, and so do I. Ilike to invent practical jokes a nd the like, though I don't play them as often as Jesse James did. .
