Making an offensive change of this nature is difficult for a team to completely accomplish in one season. Colon's transition was further hampered by some ill-timed injuries. Colon, however, handled it all very well. The first few matches of the season were slow and at times Colon's play looked poor and unorganized. The middle of the season found Colon playing super one game and badly the next. Consistency was difficult and frustrating at times for Colon to come by; but when it finally did arrive, Colon played some exciting, well executed matches. Colon finished the year in the district finals playing their best volleyball of the season; but Battle Creek St. Phil was not to be out done, and Colon placed second in the tournament. Colon's season record was 18-8 overall. Colon ended with a 13-1 league record and finished as St. Joe Valley League champs for the fifth straight year in a row. Colon placed three players on the All-Conference first team, Vicki Kime, Kathy Nightengale, and Dawn Campbell. Two players were placed on the second team, Char King and Kim Richardson. Penny McClish made honorable mention. Vicki Kime was chosen as the leagues Most Valuable Player. Vicki was also chosen as the teams Most Valuable Player. Kim Richardson was given the award for the Most Improved Player, and Denise Frohriep was presented with the Coaches Award. 13
