How can one short phrase be so unusual yet appropriate? Palm prints from hall to hall tell the story of the departing Class of 70. How could anyone in Colon High School have made it this far without worries, fretfulness, and SWEATY PALMS. Without SWEATY PALMS, there could not be a victory or defeat; an A+ or E; an annual, a prom, or a government test. Everyone has had times they would like to remember, to forget, or to see etched on a wall for the world to view. You have to be able to digest all the past, mold it into the present, and look to the future. Your palms must sweat in order to appreciate any accomplishment you may achieve. DEDICATION The 1970 Colon High Annual is dedicated to Mr. Alvin Benner and his band. There are many who overlook the band because they feel it isn't imperative to today's educational system. However, this is not true, for to Mr. Benner, music is to be lived and appreciated. Mr Benner has dedicated his entire life to the art of music, and we're glad he did. Think what the world would be like without music. Just a hollow, barren place with no beauty or food for the soul. Mr. Benner has lived for music, and given much to this field. He has directed one of the greatest band of the South, and has known many gratifications of just helping people to bring out the music in themselves. Mr. Benner has given much time and many hours of practice, worry and patience to the C.H.S. band, and unselfishly helped each individual to the best of his ability. He's pulling the band to it's feet and helping us to appreciate how much music can mean to a person, and what dreams it can fulfill. This man IS music, and is helping us to find what wonders it can hold. The student is Ana Lucia Palhano Leal from Rio de Janerio, Brazil. Her father is a captain in the Brazilian Navy. Ana's mother is a social worker in the Ministerio de Educacao e Cultra. Ana has two sisters and one brother. Ana came in January to attend second semester here. Her Colon family is Dr. and Mrs. Robert Smith and family. Ana is planning on majoring in architecture or foreign languages after graduation from high school. Martine Lahache is attending Colon High School as a foreign exchange student from Noisy-le Grand, a suburb of Paris, France. Martine is eighteen years old and has completed high school in France. She is an only child and lives with her mother who is a perfume demonstrator. She speaks English and Spanish in addition to her native language, and wishes to become an interpreter for the United Nations.
