Our officers were: William James, president; Fred Decker, vice-president; Ann Davis, secretary; Larry Mac Neill, treasurer; Tom Loudenslager and Sue Sprowl, Student Council members; and Paul Lederman, reporter. We were guided by our advisers, Mr. Leroy Evarts and Mrs. Virginia Ash. Our Homecoming Queen candidate was Sue Sprowl, and Joyleen Snyder was candidate for Halloween Queen. Initiation Day was full of laughs for all of us. The sophomores thought up everything from onion rings to baby bottles. Seventy-four students started out on our sophomore journey. Ready to learn, we chose Tom Loudenslager as president, Fred Decker as vice-president, Ann Davis as secretary, Fred Frey as treasurer. Sue Sprowl and Mary Stuart as Student Council members, and Paul Lederman as reporter. As Homecoming Queen candidate for the sophomore year, we chose Ann Davis, and our Halloween Queen candidate was Charlene Hacker. This year our advisers were Mr. Melvin Flowers and Mr. Deloss Inman. we gave a freshman initiation party. We led them down the sawdust trail, took them on a space hop with a lemon Juice stimulant, and gave them the glacier test. Miss Jo Anne Purcell directed our Junior play, “Ready Made Family.” we published our first Issue of the Colon Hi News after choosing Ann Davis, Kenneth Brandys, Mary Stuart, and Bill Wagner as editors. Our junior Homecoming Queen candidate was Becky Byrns, and we were proud of Sally Sanford, reigning as Fourth of July Queen. Sue Sprowl and Tom Loudenslager represented us at wolverine Girls' State and wolverine Boys' State. With sixty-one members in our class, we chose: president, Rudy Jenkins; vice-president, Sally Sanford; secretary, Ann Davis; treasurer, Tom Loudenslager; Student Council members, Pat Lewandowski and Fred Decker; and reporter. Sue Sprowl. Our Prom theme portrayed an Oriental Garden. The huge dragons, Agnes and Horatio, kept watch over the entire festivities. The Japanese lanterns, tea house, pagoda, and jinrikisha added beauty and amusement to the evening. To go along with the theme, our main dish was chop suey. At the great sacrifice of our individuality, we ate it. Our toastmistress and toastmaster were Sue Sprowl and Fred Decker. Fifty-nine seniors began the final upward climb toward graduation. Of these, eleven earned the rating of honor students. A large percentage of the class planned on going to college. As our senior officers, we chose: Fred Frey, president; Fred Decker, vice-president; Pat Lewandowski, secretary; Sue Sprowl, treasurer; Dale Barton and Paul Lederman, Student Council members; and Julia Ware, reporter. Ghost of a Chance, our play, was again directed by Miss Purcell. Our Homecoming Queen candidate was Julie Ann Miller. D. A. R. Pilgrim and Future Homemaker awards were won by Sue Sprowl. She and Larry Miller were our annual editors. Ann Davis was cheerleading captain; and Mary Stuart was president of both the band and the Glee Club. Shirley Hovis was head usher, and Dale Barton carried the responsibilities of Student Council President. We chose blue and white as our class colors and blue and white carnations for our class flower. Our class motto was “We finish to begin. we selected Colonial Virginia as the fulfillment of our four years of work and planning for a senior trip. we will never forget the beauty we found in our travels, and the added excitement of big city life In Washington, D. C. We said farewell to our high school days knowing that it was good to have been here. And we know that our knowledge and understanding have widened because of our work together. we salute the new day with its many challenges, and our one purpose is that we may do what is right with our lives. 21 RICHARD PAUL HUGHES God called him, and he stepped behind the curtain to finish his schooling and his appointed work. 23 c.
