'5- Diane Carrothers, Patty Braddon, ,f k Jean Currie, Franklin Westfall, K and Gary Whalen. 'x L ' ki Q '- 'I 1 Q N . ,. p After logs reach the paper mill, bark is re- moved in a revolving drum, then they are cut into smaller sections, theninto chips. These are cooked into a pulp and treated chemically. From there the soggy pulp passes into the blow bit where air at high pressure fluffs up the pulp. Unwanted materials are screened out as the pulp passes on to the beater and the stuff chest for further preparation of the fibrous pulp. Then as the pulp sheet passes forward in long machine it becomes drier and thinner with the rolling processes. Finally, it is dried entirely on steam -heated rollers, pressed to final thickness, calendered, and wound into a large roll. The final treatment is given the pulp in the mixing box, and from there the wet mass passes onto the wirecloth belt of the four- drinier machine. Rollers and powerful air suctions reduce the water content and form a flat, thin pulp sheet. From Trees to Paper fm ty-six Editor Patty Braddon and advisor, Mr. Bach- man, talk over some items concerning the Vox Lu- dorum. Braddon looks at the library display during the week
