Text from Pages 1 - 124 of the 1950 volume:

Collinwood High School Cleveland, Ohio PON your graduation the one hun- dred and twenty four members of your class will join the twelve thousand four hundred others who have preceded you since January 1928. Now your chief concern is with the future, with making a living, or with further education. But over your shoulders will be always the view of your lives in school which, if interpreted accurately, will provide direction to your activities from year to year. May those years be as pleasant as have been your experiences here! Alma Mater Oh Collinwood, thy praises now we sing; Dear Collinwood, to thee our gifts we bring. IVe hail thy colors, both the blue and gray. Thy spirit leads us on our upward way; And as we come to take our leave of thee. We pledge our love, our faith, and loyalty. Oh Collinwood, thy sons and daughters free. Go forth to love and serve humanity; The lessons thou hast taught in hall and field. Shall be to us a bulwark and a shield; A nd if the years shall bear us far from thee. We'll hold thy name in hallowed memory. Music by Sibelius Words by A. H. Ford Class Officers Regis Frattin Rita Gattozzi Anthony Tucci Ray Hubler The Happiest Years OOONER or later the truth will be known. Your six years in junior and senior high school have been the happiest years of your life, and will always be so. At graduation time you may doubt the truth of this statement. You may consider the past six years to have been only reasonably happy and rather uninteresting. Five years later, however, you will appreciate the good times you had and the many fine friends you made while at Collinwood. NY high school graduate will tell you that he never had a better time in his life, than he did in school; although, while he was at school he probably didn’t think he was particularly happy. Sometimes we’re so close to a thing, we can’t really see it clearly. That’s why it’s so important to preserve the memories of high school days, to remember every detail possible, so that, when we look back on them, years later, they will seem as real and vivid as if they still existed. Your classbook will be a key to these memories. Here’s hoping it will be a prized possession and a source of pleasant memories for many years. Margaret Adams N.H.S. Student Councilor President. Ife is undoubtedly right here seeing that only the very best can keep up under the grind of running and devote many hours to such exercises and drills which go into the make up of a well-rounded track team. Where athletes find a great deal of pleasure in football and basketball scrimages, very few find any joy in running a mile at full speed. TftACK A sensational upset was scored by the Gay 50's when they beat the Jumping Jills to clinch the girls after-school volleyball tourney. The Jumping Jills were heavy favorites, having won the championship hands down for the last three years. But the Gay 50's surprised everyone including themselves when they edged the J.J.'s 24-21 In a hard-played thriller. The new champs are Annie Klaus 12B, Celia Malovasic, Gladys Branisel, Nancy Sibert. Janice Baize!, Marilyn Steinicke, Sally Specht, Mary Lou Gavriluk, Mary Trommetter, Gattozzi, 12A’s. G Gr Looking back over Collinwood’s past gridiron season, I find it has not been, by any means, a poor one. To' begin with, the athletic department is out of the red and the squad displayed heads-up ball through most of the campaign. In my mind, Coll.nwood's '49 edition of footballers had without a doubt the greatest wealth of material and experience ever to have roamed the East side Senate or, for that matter the city this year. It doesn't seem possible that we could have spent so many years just learn-ing to he citizens. It seems strange and unnatural that now we, who have been studying for twelve years, must learn again to he independent and persevering in a new world. We asked ourselves at the time if it was worth all our effort, hut now that it is over ue know that it was. It developed our personali- ties, gave us a wider view of life, and most of all it made us feel as though we were a part of Collin wood, an essential part of this school u e are now leaving. Some of ns say that the best years of our lives are the ones which we have yet to live, the ones which we are now approaching with high hopes and great expectations, but it will take more than a lifetime to forget our high school days at Collinu ood.
