£flLLINWAA HIGH SCHOOL tbA UATING £LA55 O' U £ 4La Water Oh Collinwood, thy praises now we sing; Dear Collinwood. to thee our gilts we bring. We hail thy colors, both the blue and gray. Thy spirit leads us on our upward way; And as we come to take our leave of thee. We pledge our love, our faith, and loyalty. Oh Collinwood, thy sons and daughters free. Go forth to love and serve humanity; The lessons thou hast taught in hall and field, Shall be to us a bulwark and a shield; And if the years shall bear us far from thee. We'll hold thy name in hallowed memory. Music by Sibelius Words by A. B. Ford Graduation from high school is a milestone, kilometer post, land mark, or what you please, which indicates to some degree your accomplishments up to this time. It is a kind of measure of the distance and direction of your life travel to date. Perhaps unfortunately, however, this event yields little in the way of clues as to the direction and distance to your ultimate destinations. Life will hold many and diverse meanings to the various members of this class. I recommend a thoughtful pause before each turning rather than a hasty plunge into the unknown experiences to be encountered just around each of life's corners. The faculty of your school hopes the experience here will provide you with an effective foundation upon which to base your many important decisions. Dedication T WAS a world of uncertainty into which we children of depression were born; and it is still a world of uncertainty into which we now go forth. We realize that such a world presents a profound challenge — a challenge which despite the experience gained during our two years of education will probably require all the stamina and ability that we possess. We know that we are not the hub about which the universe revolves, the pivot upon which the earth turns, or even the point in which the destiny of the nation centers. But we also know that we are not the most infinitesimal of beings, that we do have some significance, and that we shall have a voice, however small, in the affairs of our generation. We understand that, in the course of our lives, we shall be called upon to endure sorrows and tragedies wholly unknown to us in the days of our youth. But conversely, we also recognize that we shall have opportunities, many opportunities to find enjoyment, satisfaction, and happiness, such as we have never experienced before. We trust that, in our lifetime, we shall be given the chance to prove to ourselves and to the world in general, that we are worthy of bearing, while we may. the torch of human civilization. entrusted to us by our eminent forebears. And so, as we make our debut into this world of uncertainty, we fervently pray that our brief existence will, in some small measure, at least, give hope and assistance to man in his slow struggle upward. We will remember not only those important things that belonged to us as a class, but those small things that played so important a part in our school life. At the time, they may have seemed trivial, or even annoying, but they will remain as the core of our precious memories, long after others filter away. How can we ever forget that cherry Hi, as we passed our friends in the hall; the last peek at that book before we entered the classroom for a test; the stage fright before the first curtain; the excitement in the radio room just before the Friday announcements; the struggle in the Spotlight room to get all the copy out on time; the tenseness before the opening kickoff of a football game; the thrill of presenting a perfect parade after long hours of band drill: the suspenso of waiting for the Student Council election returns; the frustration when our chemistry experiment went wrong; the pride of watching members of our class give an excellent performance before an appreciative audience. As we turn the pages of our class-book. and look over the pictures of our friends and activities, we will be reminded of many of these little insignificant details that made up our life at Collinwood High School.
