We will always remember such names as Adamle, Perrotti, Palumbo, McGroarty, Federico, Baes- lach, Plescia, Salabuno, Heiss, Hiller, Iankovich, Vaiksner, Hubbard, Tripoli, Post, Kanizay, Caputo, Glicker and Baus, the boys who carried Col1inwood's colors to the Stadium two years in a row. Never to be forgotten are the center plunges of Adamle, McGroarty's terrific line backing and the team of Caputo and Iankovich that passed us to victory over Cathedral Latin in '42. And so a high-spirited Bailroader eleven opened the 1943 season, defending a two-year-old East Side Senate crown. Plagued by fumbles in the pre-season Lincoln game, the Blue ci Gray fell before a 26-O score, bringing back sad memories of a 26-0 Charity Game score, also dealt by the Presidents. Then a brilliantly lighted, fully packed Shaw Stadium saw the traditional rivals battle back and forth in a scoreless deadlock: but the fumbles weren't as frequent, and the plays were beginning to look smoother- the boys were ready for the Senate. This time the Lions were run by Rakar: they pounced on the Railroaders for a final score of l3-0, shattering our hopes of another chance at Lincoln and a third straight Charity Game. And the class of Iune '44 added to the annals of football such names as Norris Fair, Bill Arko, Dick Hlabse, George Mandich, Ray O'Neill, Bill Perry. And from former seasons: Iohn Palumbo, Cow- boy LaRiccia, and still claimed by the class of '44, our one and only Scootchie -Mike Cannavirio. During the l943 - 1944 season, Cleveland's basketball courts saw one of the finest teams ever to play for the Blue dl Gray, and from our class came: BILL ARKO . ..,..,.., .4.. ..,.... As the leaves begin to fall every year and we look toward some indoor entertain- ment to occupy our winter week-end evenings, we find fun and excitement every Friday night wherever our basketball team is playing. And there's plenty to shout about, because the Railroaders keep the ball swishing through the basket. We will never forget these evenings, and we will always remember those fellows who pounded down the hardwood floor to bring glory to Collinwood. Scorching the city's indoor tracks during the winter, and kicking up cinders in the spring, the runners, hurdlers, and shot putters of Collinwood have shown in stift competition that they rate among the best. The 880 relay team of Thomas, Laugman and Lucas, brought a beautiful first place trophy home to Collinwood. Lucas took second, and Burrell fourth in the 50, and Wildeman won third place honors in the mile run. The light-weight relay of Al Ruscitto, lim Guinn, Phillip Ryan, and Lou Ruscitto battled to third place. Urbancic, Tushar, Glieve, and Dehn took a fourth in the two mile relay. And so with achievements behind them, the boys still look forward to the remaining meets of the season, as chances to carry the Blue G Gray to new Heights. if In the spring a young man's fancy turns to thoughts of-baseball. From our class have come many members of Collinwood's baseball teams in the past three years. Every day at the end of the eighth period about twenty fellows make their way to the magnificent Coit field for infield practice and to chase flys in the beauti- ful, smooth, green outfield. All this is preparation for games twice a week. In the 1943 season we had, among others, Wally Lunka and George Mandich, Lunka pitching and Mandich fielding. Teach us anew, O God, that goodness is more to be desired than greatness: and that the only way to be great is to serve. Maytime was the theme and Maytime it was in the cafeteria. The scene ot gowns, fruit blossoms, a May Pole, white arbors and fences, all blended together in a lovely panorama of color. The sweet strains oi music by Warren Oswald and his band: ice cream. cookies, and lemonade: souvenirs ot lamb pins and key rings with dogs and dog houses in many colors, All these made the night a dream.
