THE GALA r JANUARY 4© 4 COLLINWOOD HIGH SCHOOL LIBRARY WLUNWOOD HIGH SCHOOL UMAKY Nothing proves tho man more than the pursuit of excellence, not mere vague aspirations but the steady and abiding will to find and know and do the best. As a former Latin teacher I can think of no better message for you than my favorite Latin quotation Excelsior , the translation o: which is practically the equivalent of your own slogan, Hitch your wagon to a star _________or as 1 would translate it, Ever upwerd and onward. Whatever your niche in life may be, fill it to the best of your ability; the result cannot help but be fullness of experience and a fair share of happiness. Good Dancer THE ROUNDUP Published by June Class - of 1940 •y Collinwood High School 0OLUNWOOD HIGH SCHOOL LIBRART V I O Collinwood, thy praises now we sing. Dear Collinwood, to thee our gifts we bring. We bear thy colors, both the blue and gray; Thy spirit leads us on our upward way, And as we come to take our leave of thee We pledge our love, our faith, and loyalty. 7a fjusie GIgAA of 1940 The opportunity—yours, To deal justly, to show mercy, to walk humbly. To pursue truth, to revere goodness, to love beauty, This is what life offers. These are life's noblest ideals. Shall they be mere words, or Shall they still glow in you At the trail's end? The question—yours. (lawtA-up, Looks mighty like this were the last roundup of the rip-snortin'est, omeriest class that was ever in the Collinwood corral. We've gone along the trail at a right smart pace, and we've had a lot of fun on the way. Those early days were the most fun, hardly a bit of trouble getting across the first ford. The range bosses found we were happy-go-lucky with nothing on our minds but football games and lamin' how to be seniors. Then the trail began to wind over mountains and there were a lot of strays and drifters 'mong the cowhands that year. But we still stood out like a herd of pure-bred Herefords. I shore remember those first plays and operettas and how we laughed at old Mrs. Haggett in Christopher Bean when she shook all the powder out of her hair. Reckon the cowboys lulled themselves to sleep on many a night what with those songs from the Mikado and Chimes of Normandy. Just a while back we got a big kick out of Mrs. Moonlight and Minnie and Percy. The cowboys shore liked that play and still tease the gals about the bustles and fool hats. Well, maybe our best camping spots were the Proms, though. The first was south of the border in Mexico and the second was over there in Alabam' som'eres at that Magnolia Ball. The stars were bright that night and didn't fall. Don't rightly know how we could have struggled along if the range bosses hadn't helped a lot. Maybe if we jest say, Thanks pardner, to Miss Rebert, Mr. Myers, Mr. Stringer, Mr. Avery, Miss Hawkins and Mrs. McAnemey, they'll understand our choked feeling. Yes, the trail has been fun and not too hard, and we're sorry to have this last round up. The trail forks here and some of the cowhands are going to other ranges. Maybe some day we'll meet together in another big Round Up. Albrecht. Loretta Merit Roll Booklet Committee Study Hall Chairman Secretary to Miss Humphreys Anderson.
