From any art you will get only what your imaginations put into 1 it. In this moving art of life may you be cast for just the parts that suit you. All year 34... time just marched on. May f35........a big night. Young Handel of Hanover was pre- sented wfth Martin Brown, wearing a long white night shirt, starring as the boy prodigy. He was ably supported by Marjorie Karnatz, Betty Radloff, and Margaret Gorrell in other stellar roles. November 35... blundering into a Student Council meeting by mistake, a little 7B noted with awe the efficient manner in which Eleanor Rusnak, president, conducted a motion which had just been made by the vice-president, who was none other than George Will. January 36.... day of daysl Betty Bartlett won the American Legion medal• May ’37........the Nonas and Carpe Diens, our class’s two Hi-Y clubs, gave the girls a thrill by collaborating for an informal dance. Are we growing up at last? April T38......the 12B-12A basketball game took place, with Chuck Post wearing a startling pair of bright orange gym shorts decorated with a large black diamond over the place of most wear. Bob Ulmer made the one and only point for the erstwhile 12B’s. May 58.........the Prom at last! Over 100,001 fans are here to see some of Collinwood’s greatest players imbibe in their last game. Following are some highlights: Ed Yanchar’s opening is seen going through the 12B s goalposts. On the first play the 12B’s are thrown back by the terrific onslaught of Post and Petrelli. Tucci recovers. In the second quarter, with the score 25 to 0 in the favor and possession of the 12A’s on their own 1-yard line, Frank Ku-kla gets off a partially blocked kick, which travels 99 yards against the wind, where it is fallen on by Jack. Rose for a touchdown. The last touchdown of the game came as the result of a basketball pass by Mike Dices-are that landed right in the hands of a 12A, but was jerked out by one of those grabby 12Bfs, who proceeded to run (the v rong way) for a touchdown. Pat Tizzano Pete Gentile told him which way to run. Final score: 12A s 100 12B fs 00 and for a S1 impse at our hardwood hardies: In this scene Bob Greenwald has just shot from midfloor. The ball doesn't hit the rim, it doesn’t even hit the backboard; it hardly even touches the strings as it splits the mesh. Here we see Spikes Dicesare taking the ball away from Hank Luisetti, a member of the visiting team• For our selected shorts we show you: Leo (Slammin') Schamadan, in shorts, budging Don Budge from his tennis throne, Leo won the match 6:0; 6:0; 6:0. Skating, slamming, and slashing, we discover Marv Schaefer sticking his way down the ice to make another unassisted goal. Chapter 42 THE STRUGGLE IN THE DARK Promptly on the stroke of midnight a figure familiar to all noon movie goers is seen wending his way through the dim and deserted corridors of Collinwood. It is none other than a valiant 12A noon movie boy carrying the day’s receipts up to the bank in the usual execution of his duty. Little does he reck as he blithely swings along jingling the pennies in his pocket of the disaster that awaits him around the next corner. For there, concealed in the shadows, lie the rival 12B noon movie crew, bitterly jealous of the eminently successful 12A’s • Suddenly, as our unsuspecting hero rounds the corner, they jump out and surround him, while the leader jabs a gun into the 12A’s ribs. O.K., buddy, he mutters threateningly, up wit ’em and fork over da dough like a good little noon movie guy or I’ll drill ya. Yeah? says the undaunted 12A. Well how do you like the feel of this? And quick as a flash he swings back his arm and gives the robber an uppercut to the jaw that sends him flying up the stairs to the third floor. But now the rest of the cutthroats set upon our hero. He turns and twists right and left as he battles his opponents. A right to the jawj A left to the nosej A left to the jawl A right to the nose! Oh, what a fightl Suddenly...... To be continued in our next Ten Ye rs Afte r or lioiu d id 1 d ei out] Goodbye, dear. Have a nice time at your club meeting. Sure you don’t want me to drive you over? Suits me. Goodbye, dear. Well, another evening by myself. Wonder if there’s anything on the radio? ....and it is through study and experience that wisdom comes. The school has tried to teach you to do your own thinking, to make your own decisions, to make your own living.” Quite true, Quite true.. Do you consider that in the ten years since you graduated you have made the most of your time and opportunities? Sure. I’ve done all right, everything considered. When you graduated, you promised not to let your cultural life stagnate. You resolved to pursue your reading in history, art, and philosophy. Have you done so? Absolutely. Only of course I don’t much time for those things. Anyhow to a musical comedy once in a while. You also once resolved to look after your physical welfare -- to exercise, keep trim and hard. Have you? Well, I only weigh one-ninety-five. When people say I ’m flabby they don’t realize it’s all muscle. Ten years out of school. You should be cultivated, fairly prosperous, broadminded, interested in the finer things. Are you? Well, I should hope to kiss a pig. Oooh• I think----| 11 go----to sleep. Even more do we need to inventory our possibilities. As a people we are this year doing some of both in our two great fairs. As a group on the threshold of life you may well take pride in completing the first step in your school education. You can do nothing better now than to make an inventory of your personal resources in the face of such opportunities as the world offers. Opportunities and possibilities, however, are not wholly given. They are in large part created. To that task of making your own world, this school would dedicate you. It will take everything you have. Here's to you and your brave new world! FRANK P.
