All Jason's predecessors had failed in the undertaking Yet the brave youth ordered the making of a large vessel, the Argo, on which there was a speaking figurehead. AEolus, god of winds, ordered that the courageous men who constituted the crew should encounter no dangerous tempests or unfavorable winds. Three years ago our class set out to gain a treasure— Graduation. We have endured the trials of our voyage throughout this time and are about to obtain the thing we prize. In various ways some members of our crew have been lost, but most of us have made a safe journey. We wish to express cur appreciation to the deities of Collinwood for their help and encouragement during our undertaking. During the voyage the Argonauts visited many islands and kingdoms, but each time they went ashore, Jason lost several men Hercules refused to continue on the expedition after the death of a comrade; a few stayed to do a good deed for the blind king of Thrace; and many were wounded by a fleck of brazen birds who dropped sharp plumage upon the crew. The Argonauts' most dangerous experience was the possage between the Symplegades, heavy rocks which were forever clashing together. After surviving this and other perilous adventures, Jason finally landed at Colchis, succeeded in slaying the dragon, and thereby won the golden fleece
