Your inspiration to us 'and to the many students who have gone before us, during the ten years you have served as English teacher, senior sponsor, and Pirate advisor, can best be expressed in the following poem: I love you For what you are And for the good you see in me. I love you For putting your hand into my restless heart And passing over the foolish things there And bringing to light beautiful dreams - No one else had love enough to be aware. I love you Because you are helping me to make Of the lumber of my life Not a tavern, But a templeg A FRIEND Of the everyday things of life Not a drudgery, But a song. I love you For making me want to choose th e good And showing me how to be happy. You have done these things By being yourself. That is what being a friend isg After all. M. M. Austin Collegeg M.A. East Texas State College Many words of wisdom are written in books where they are available when you feel the need. Youth stands in need also of practical wisdom: love, understanding, guidance, leadership. These, all dedicated teachers give to their students. In dealing with students, I come to appreciate their fine qualities and their po- tentialg I grow to love them as I share their joys and their problems. But the Class of '64 has a special pull on my heartstringsg I am both teacher and parent, For eleven years I have watched you grow into the fine upstanding young people you now are. If I have loved you more than I have loved other classes, I feel that I may be pardonedg after all the friends and companions of my son have come to be very like my own. Silver and gold have I none, but such as I have, give I unto yous my sincere good wishes for happiness, success in all your future endeavors, my constant concern in your welfare, and my readiness and willingness at all times to be of service to you, Goodbye, and God bless you. The greatest contribution you have made is the attitude of sin- cere support of your school and your school program. You have proved your faith by your works as the following impressive list - and this is only a partial listing - will show. Painting and renovating halls andclassrooms Bought Little League baseball equipment Purchased a slide and other playground equipment Bought S600 worth of library and reference books C3200 worth each year for the past three yearsy Sponsored community activities such as the Halloween Carnival, Thanksgiving Music Night, Volleyball Tournament, Therefore as a small measure of our appreciation to you parents who give gener- ously of your time, talent, and money to carry out such an outstanding program to provide better teaching equipment and facilities for your students and teachers, we the teachers, gratefully dedicate this 1964 BULLDOG PUP to the Tioga PTA. Sincerely, Lloyd M, Combs, Principal In Appreciation The big money-making project of the PTA is the Annual Volleyball Tournament. The results in the amount of money made and, more important, in community cooperation make it a tremendous Success. Promoting and staging this tournament require many long hours of free time on the part of the parents, the teachers, and Leroy. This outstanding success could not have been possible, Leroy, without the free time you gave in sending out invitations, in arranging the schedule, in securing offi- cials, in keeping the gym in order - in fact, in organizing and staging this fun festival. In so doing you have contributed to the happiness of the players, the spectators, and the school kids who will benefit from the books, the playground equipment, and other items paid for out ofthe proceeds. A great big THANK YOU, Leroy. Money Making Project: VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT PTA Workers: There are many others. Mrs. C. L. Our Principal LLOYD M, COMES, B,A,, M,A, University of Texas Two things I enjoy most: teaching boys and girls and gardening, The two ac- tivities are similar. It is a fascinating miracle to me to plant seeds, to see them struggle to life as plants, to watch the plants grow and bear fruit. It is the unfold- ing of one facet of the Master Creator's mind. So it is with teaching children. Dropping the seeds of the desire to learn, shap- ing the plan of a young life, providing the intellectual and spiritual climate that will best contribute to the growth and fulfillment of the master plan for each life is sharing with our Creator in the performance of a miracle. I count it a privilege to be a member of a parent-teacher-community team dedicated to the high purpose of giving our best to our children. Through these doors And down this hall l'll walk no more a youth. Still, this is my school. This is my school. Young people come to her and say, Here are our livesg We place them under your guidance For a little while. Show us the way Through the wilderness of the years aheadg Here must we grapple With our hopes, our doubts, and our fears. ww This is my school. It offered us shelter While in our lives The roots of love and faith and understanding Sank deep to feed our strength In the years of the future. In how we live, In what we cherish, Is the measure Of our success or failure. And, now, Good-bye! f Here we come, Seniors of '64 Autographs TAYLOR PUBLQSUIFIF VCQMPANY Qin .4 ,, v Y -.V-W Q,,,.-,iv my - I ..- .Ang , A ,. v 45.15 ' . J Z 1 1 H,. 1 . ,n F ' J o -- ..
