The KAHOKIAN is taking exception to the rule, howev- er, in dedicating this '78 yearbook to Miss Margaret Linder, past yearbook advisor for many years. This is a surprise to Miss Linder, thanks to Miss Jan Kuncl, who revealed vital information to the yearbook staff, as well as taking the pictures of Miss Linder in her home. The KAHOKIAN thanks Miss Kuncl for her help in the dedication. This 1978 KAHOKIAN is dedicated to Miss Margaret Linder, who in the past has sponsored the yearbook for 33 years. While holding down the position of yearbook sponsor, Miss Linder has also been dean of students and college counselor. Miss Linder has been associated with Unit 10 for 38 years. In addition, Miss Linder has taught Sociology, Health, World,History, American History and Economics, as well as sponsoring the National Honor Society, Quill and Scroll and the Art Club. Miss Linder first started on the KAHOKIAN during her own high school years at CHS, then she went on to work with the SAGAMNE staff at S. E. Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. On both publications, she was on the art staff. Since retiring last year, Miss Linder has remained ac- tive around her home reading and drawing. Outside the home, she ffas enjoyed traveling and dining out. o'?',-45 - f x? - --+- f W--xx , We T' it-ix M410 9 ff- Kai. L Y? Miss Linder always wanted to become a successful teacher, and a person who was useful and helped contrib- ute to the development of young people. The KAHOKIAN feels she has accomplished her goals here at CHS, and wishes her the very best in her years of retirement. V And thanks, Miss Linder, for all the help with the year- books.

FOOTBALL WIN K1-EE-PS PACE Changes is the theme of the 1978 KAHOKIAN. Regardless of class, CHANGES have been a vital part of everyone's school life this past 1977-78 year. For everyone it was the change to a six-hour day from the seven-hour day. Some liked the shorter days and others didn't Both campuses had to adjust to the faculty changes. For the juniors, it was a switch becoijnfiijg the first class in a while not receiving open campus.,.For the most part, the sopho- mores went through the change of a new campus. For the freshmen, it was the .change to high school life-a student at CHS. i The new mid-quarter reports were avchange from the old failingjnotices, as was the new attendance policy, The Kahok footballteam won the ,Homecoming football game, a change from previous seasonsZ,Basketball ticket sales boomed like no other year. Physical- Education became an elective for juniors and seniors, and CHS-was introduced to a new sport- girls basketball. , R However, all sports were in jeopardy as CHS had to go out and raise money through donations to carry a sports pro- gram. i The seniors have watched many changes in their four years at CHS. They've watched each other mature from a freshman at the Vandalia Campus to the seniors they were this spring. For them and everyone, styles, music and peo- ple have all changed. ' , We've tried to create these changes among the introduc- tion pages, as well as throughout the book. Perhaps you will notice and realize the CHANGES that take part everyday for the CHS student, and we hope you enjoy this year's publica- tion, which is yet another change because the yearbook is now a total book as the supplement has been included in the regular edition. aww Editor-in-Chief 7'
