Special friendships form, special feelings that are characteristic of students in our age group, make lasting impressions that we hope we have captured in this 1977 KAHOK1AN to serve as a lasting reminder of some of the happy days of your lives during your teenage years. IF________________________ I COULD PUT TIME IN A BOTTLE The first thing that I’d like to do Is to save every day until eternity passes away Just to spend them with you. s IF I COULD MAKE DAYS LAST FOREVER If words could make wishes come true I'd save every day like a treasure and then again I would spend them with you. 7 BUT THERE NEVER SEEMS TO BE ENOUGH TIME To do the things you want to do once you find them I’ve looked around enough to know That you’re the one I want to go through time with. IF I HA A BOX JUST FOR WISHES And dreams that had never come true. I e box would be empty except for The mem’ry of how they were answered by you. 9 10 KkHD LANL'v; (t( WlO w 1st Place Float—Sophomores 2nd Place Float—Seniors mm « 3rd Place Float—Juniors Queen s Float Pups 1977 Homecoming Court Mary Bohnensteil, Retiring Queen Kathy Boyle and escort Pat Ross, Freshman Maid Mary Lemanski and escort Ken Moench. junior Maid Carol Peterson and escort Kevin Carney. The play concerned the life of Charlie Gordon, a mentally retarded young man, and his struggle to find meaning in his life. He undergoes an operation which turns him into a genius. After the operation he remembers things about his past, his parents, and his childhood. Charlie finds love and pain as the real world unfolds about him. Sadly, the effects of the operation wear off and the play ends with Charlie regressing to his former state. Bill Conklin performs tne role of Charlie Gordon. Other leading roles were played by Marc Harvey, Kevin Shea, Mike Stipe and Cathy Fleming. Read Schusky was student director. The entire production was directed by Mr. Nelson. The talented cast was directed by Susan Fournie, a senior. Assisting Susan as chairpersons of committees were Linda Daniel, costume and make-up; Patrick Murphy, stage; Valinda Biggs, props; Mike Sedgwick, dance and choreography; and Glynis Pialzgraf, publicity. Advisors for the production were Mrs. Rhoda Gibson, Greenwood Campus, and Mrs. Alice Bilderback, Vandalia Campus. In Act I, a few members of the cast effectively portrayed the newsroom reporters of a major television studio in San Francisco. Later in the act, others played passengers aboard a jet enroute to a convention of the World Order of Women when mechanical troubles forced the plane to land at Casablanca. The fascinating natives entertained the tourists before they continued their trip. And, finally, back in San Francisco, in the closing scene of Act II, everyone joined in for a rousing “welcome home” party for the travelers. Scenes in the romantic comedy, “A Little W.O.W., were set in San Francisco and also in the city of Casablanca, Morocco. The women “libbers” were fascinated as they went souvenir hunting at the oriental bazaar, while the reporters found themselves involved with an international ring of jewel thieves. Assisted by the native dancers and an old soothsayer, the reporters eventually became the heroes as they helped apprehend the thieves. For this they received the golden keys to the city. The Concert Mixed Chorus of the two campuses presented a holiday concert in December and a spring program in March, and appeared in a number of community programs throughout the year. The Chorus entries in the State Solo and Ensemble Contest at SIU in Carbondale did very well, also. VARIETY SHOW CAST First row.—sitting—Bill Jackson. Both Soehlke. Pat Murphy. Glynis Pfalzgraf. The memories of the fun and sad times will remain with us for years to come, and most of the friends we have made will stay our friends forever. We are proud to say we won the Homecoming Class Clash both our Junior and Senior years, and in our past years have put on the ’76 Football Coronation, “Stairway to Heaven , the ’76 Junior-Senior Prom “Today. Tomorrow, and Always , and the ’77 Basketball Coronation Saturday in the Park”. During Homecoming this year the Senior Float placed second. The theme was Kahoks give Lancers a good Lickin’ . Pam Traw was chosen as our Football Queen and her escort was Jim Du Vail. They entered to the song Nadia’s Theme . Our Special Maid was Linda Kelly. Her escort was Kip Klein, and her song was Then You Came into my Life . The theme of the coronation was Morning Has Broken”. Christmas soon came, and Melodic Giger, Linda Mueller. Kim Rudis, and Tam Traw were chosen as the maids. Melodie was escorted by Rick Locandro (Soccer) to the song “Do You Hear What I Hear?”; Linda was escorted by Greg Mohler (Golf) and chose the song “Silver Bells ; Kim was escorted by Don Kerkemeyer (Soccer) to “The Christmas Song ; and Queen Tam Traw was escorted by Bill Swip to the song “Christmas Is”. Robbin Roedger was selected as the 1977 Basketball Queen, and Betty Koopman was chosen as the Special Maid. Now as we enter our final days as Seniors we think about all our friends and the good times that made school worthwhile. It seems only yesterday we were Freshmen. To Seniors of ’77, graduation may be sad, but it is only the beginning of the happy lives ahead. To all underclassmen, enjoy your high school years because they soon will be over. I glance at my hat and tassel As on my rocking chair they rest, Next to a Raggedy Ann doll The clock has a lonely ticking As I stare into the mirror In the stillness of my room I feel a tingling fear. As I’m not sure of what is coming The image staring back Has changed in many ways, I ponder on the memories Of those laughing, carefree, grade school days, I feel a sense of yearning. Those drawings so out of proportion But to us they seemed so real. The sun always wore a smile Because of the warmth he let us feel, As we swung into eternity. We then grew into adolescence Retaining remains of our childhood Trying to grasp responsiblities of adulthood Even chasing rainbows for awhile. Trying desperately to link them with reality. Now, with graduation here Reality, it is hard to face If only once we could go back To football games, homework, first dates. And be with friends forever. But back, it holds no future So the future we must attack. There’s a whole new world awaiting. Waiting to give us a chance. Again I hear the restless ticking. The gown, it tumbles ’round me I place my cap upon my head. I look into the mirror I know what must be said: I’m ready to accept my diploma. We all have goals to reach for We each have a star in the sky, We ll always have our memories To linger on by and by, As we leave our High School buddies. These years have gone so fast They always do when times are fun. But now we have to realize Our time has just begun by Kelly Palmer Farewell Now. My Friend I love you. my friend You’re quite dear to me. A true friend you are And always will be. But you’re leaving me soon And going your own way, Perhaps we will meet In the future some day. You’ve left me with memories Of good times we’ve had. To treasure forever And make me feel glad. I wish you good luck In all that you do May all of life’s pleasures Come your way, too. Farewell now, my friend And please may you find Some thoughts of me Always in your mind. ittt The Kahohian Senior Section Staff of 1977 wishes everyone good luck in all they do in the future and may all of you remember Collinsville High School ... To stand above all the rest, I feel that it is something best. I’d like to think of him as fond, He crossed my path not far beyond. He takes me up in heaven above, I think I have just fallen in love. His marks of greatness arise in my soul, He casts in my heart a major role. The precious time we did share, Knowing that we both did care.
