The city of New Orleans was the objective of the 1948 band trip, and, traveling by cHbrtered bus, the Band climaxed a successful year by spending a very profitable and enjoyable week in the Crescent City. Two concerts and a band clinic for 125 schools, at T. C. U., were among the 14 concerts played. In April, 1951, the band was invited to make a second visit to New Orleans, La. Their concerts were received enthusiastically, especnjjly in schools where the 1948 tour was remembered. A record flood of the Missouri River at Omaha, Neb., in April, 1952, failed to mar the band’s enthusiastic reception in that city. On the third trip of the band to New Orleans, in 1953, ten concerts were played in the schools of New Orleans Parish. Conducted tours of an ocean liner and of the historical French Quarter and spectacular Botanical Gardens of the city were other high lights of the trip.
