don FEBRUARY Vandalia cagers our guests. Junior Dance. Our Hearts were Young and Gay as we danced away the evening at the Valentine's Day Party. We play the Oilers and come out the winners. Another Band Concert. More music, more gaiety. Student Council sponsors the Patriotic Dance! Our boys were winners of the Conference Champ title for the second consecutive year, so they rate a much deserved All-School Pep Session! 1 We don't like Decatur—they've a good team ! ! MARCH The Sectional Basketball Tournament in our own gym this year. We hope to slay all competitors. We're good, because we won the Regional test. Yippee, we did it—downed our first opponent in the tourney. Keep it up, guys, on to the State. Oh, groan—East St. Louis tossed us an unexpected, undeserved defeat. Well . . next year? Oh, the operetta! Wish I could make like a bird' It was so good, and what professional scenery! Why can't we do this more often Teachers have a meetin' and we get out of school. Boy! 16

A suitable climax to the usual Christmas season festivities. We nip Staunton—another victory, another day! JANUARY First loss of the season—to those darn Tigers Kahoks really trounce the Belleville cage team! We hear home talent at the second Band Concert. We win again. This time Alton holds the bag. Whew! Semester's over. Now I can loaf again! We celebrate our victory over Granite's team with an honest-to-goodness successful dance! Christmas Vacation ends all too soon as we all wend our weary ways back to the old grind. Taylorville made us look sort of 'hammy, but then, maybe they're the State Champs-to-be! 15

dvenifione APRIL After those awful three hour exams I'm certoin I'm less than a moron. Hope they lose those. Something to be amazed by—a dance, the first in forty nine days time. And just everyone came. Whole bunch of lucky kids made the National Honor Society. That's an honor to work for. I expected rotten grades, but not that rotten. The Band's off to Memphis at long last. Peoce! A really good Recreation Center opens for us MAY There was a baseball game around here, I think. The Big Night arrives at last—The Prom! We'd all waited and hoped, and it was just as grand as we wanted it to be. Glad someone asked me! An assembly program of first magnitude given by those super seniors, leading up to their Senior Day! The whole hundred of 'em are off for a day of legal hookey. The end is near. Semesters begin. Grueling, isn't it? Oh, well! Graduation at long last. The kids are mighty dignified and solemn in their mortar boards and gowns. Wonder how their thoughts run! 17
