Devils Rebound to Swamp Clay The Red Devils came back strong fromtheir first defeat of the season to defeat the Clay Panthers, 73-O. Taking the lead early in the first quarter, the Devils were never threatened. TD's were made by McDaniel with 2, Hardingg Smith, Lukie with 3, Cvillenwaterg Bloxton, Hartenstein, and Criss. Devils Break War's Winning Streak Breaking a winning streak of 20 games for the Owls, the Red Devils scored the first time they got the ball on a pass play from Nichols to McDaniel that covered 50 yards, and went on to hand Big Creek their first defeat in two years, 12-O. Ayres scored the second TD on a 33 yard run. Red Devils Humble Hinton Sparked by a hard charging line, Oak Hill handed Hinton a 46-O defeat. Played before a small crowd,the game was highslighted by the running ofMcDaniel and Nichols and the fine passing of Criss. The second half was played by the reserves headed by Dexter Fowler. Devils Squeeze by Travlers With the score O to O at half time, the De vils fought back to score on a 36 yard run by Buck McDaniel. The Devils only other score came on a one yard plunge by Ayres which climaxed a drive of 87 yards. The game ended with the score 13 to 6 in favor of the Devils. Oak Hill Wins Annual Jug Game Without the services of Buck McDaniel, the Devils handily defeated Mt, Hope Z6 to O. The Devils scored two quick TD's by Criss and Taylor. Other s co r e s were made by Harding and Criss. This game closed out another successful season for the Devils. COLLINS EDGES EAST BANK Opening the l956 football season Sept- ember 7, the Red Devil s edged a strong East Bank eleven, 7-6. The one and only score came following an East Bank punt. After receiving the ball on the Pioneer 40, the Devils made a s e rie s of progressing plays after which Nichols plunged over to score. He added the extra point and ended all scoring for the Devils. DUDAMEN TUMBLE STOCO Coach John Duda's mighty Devils, not hindered by a steady downpour of rain, rolledto their second victory of the season, defeating the Stoco Indians, 32-6. After an 82 yard drive, Walker plunged over for the first tally. Nichols, with op- en running, galloped 92 yards for the se- cond tally, Other De v il s who broke into the scoring column were: McDaniel, Wallace and Ayres. DEVILS TAKE COALFIE LD GAME In a c oalfi eld conference battle, the De vi l s defeated Princeton 13-0 for their third victory. Taking an early lead in the first quart- er, Ayres plunged ove r two yards for the first TD. In the second quarter, McDaniel ran 83 yards for the s ec ond score. The Devils staved off four Princeton rallies all within five yards of their goal line. Buck McDaniel picks up Z5 yards against the Big Creek Owls while three teammates come over to form a screen. Because of an e arly ACORN publication, all ofthe Red Devil basketball scores are not available for publication, The Devils, however, are having a successful season with l0 wins and five losses. With each game the team is showing improvement Although they had a difficult time in starting the season, the Devils are beginning to roll, winning their last seven out of eight games as the yearbook goes to press. Thus far the Devils have defeated Kingston, Fayetteville lil, Ansted, Shady Spring, Mount Hope, Lookout, Stoco, Hinton, East Bank, and the Alumni.
