SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS, Michael Wickline, Vice-President, Janet Grounds, Secretary-Treasurer, and Larry Dotson, President. SENIOR ACHIEVEMENTS The Senior Class of 1956 had many wonderful and outstanding achievements. The following are a few, but by far not all of their numerous ac- complishments. On the Red Devil Football squad ten outstand - ing senior boys demonstrated their athletic ability Senior boys also served as co-captains of the team. On the basketball team three senior boys displayed their excellent talent, Miss Red Devil, Miss Homecoming, four Collins Beauties, Miss Collins High School, Teen Queen, and May Queen all well represented the senior class. AroundCollins the seniors were very active in club work. To evidence this seniors served as presidents of the Varsity, Future Business Leaders of America, Dramatics, Thespians, Na- tional Honor Society, Tri -Hi-Y, Press, Quill and Scroll, Home Economics, and Hi-Y clubs. Seniors also served as Presidents of the Band, A Capella Choir, and Student Council. As evidence of their willingness to work, a senior served as co-chairman of the clean-up committee and as co-chairman of the Student Directories. Seniors conducted Orientation Day for freshmen, helped to conduct Leadership tests, won intramural football, basketball, and volley- ball, won first place instrumental and novelty divisions of the talent show, served as editors of the LOG and ACORN, placed on the honor roll every six weeks, served as chairman of the Den Dances, served as chairman of the Talent Show, served on first string football and at the Coalfield Conference, took part in Fayette County Talent Show, served faithfully on the Secretarial Service, conducted Career Day, held the annual senior play, took partin the Fayette County Choral Fes- tival, chairman of the Fayette County Teens A- gainst Polio, and seniors were members and held office in every club in school. The senior honors were quite numerous. Some of their honors included: art awards, pub- lications in National Yearbook of Essays, poems published in the National Anthology,first semester Hi-Teen, Baush and Lamb science award, Daugh- ters of American Revolution Citizenship award, vice-president of the King Coal District of Tri- Hi-Y, Hannah Awards, and received honorable mention in state football. Seniors attended State Student Council Con- vention at Jackson's Mill, Southeastern District Association ofStudentCouncils, National Conven- tion of StudentCouncils in Philadelphia,Rhododen- dron Girls' State at Jackson's Mill, Mountaineer Boys' State at Jackson's Mill, Camp Chely in Denver, Colorado, and Camp Horseshoe and Tri- Hi-Y camp at Parsons, West Virginia.
